  • Identity

    Our Depths

    How little we are!

Our depths yearn to see the light,

the light that makes fruit out of dust and water

and discloses all the truth hidden in darkness.

    Where are we going?

We are sailing on the waves of joy,

during a slumber the storm of melancholy arrives,

it rouses us abruptly to fight our life,

with fear and hope we are getting up.

Who are you the man - wrath thunders,

chasing the wind with a naked sword?

Who are you the man? - Narumi scorns,

drenching the sea with your blood?

Who are you the man? - stars are wailing,

do you not know that people die?

    Blinded running forward,

    Being deaf and composing music,

    Seeing special in ordinary,

    and difference in the same.

    We mortals flickering,

    trying to grasp beauty.

    As the days were going,

    unstilled thirst was growing,

my desire for water never changed

disappeared all of a sudden without being quenched.

    Freezing draught is blowing,

    vague echoes are tolling,

    tolling the music of life,

that one day the Sun will rise.

  • A Man Who Yearnt to Understand the Beauty

A boy beheld the light of thought,

    heard the abstract symphony,

music grew in his heart day by day,

night by night until he matured

into a man who yearned to understand the beauty

    more than anything else.

    He Came to Learn

A little child was born into the world,

fragile and naked with no possesions,

he landed on crying in the universe of pain,

breathing the air of the Earth through his nostrils.

He came forth from the world of no sorrow,

decided to leave the comfort of the womb,

    trading perfection for inperfection,

he sold his house and bought bricks.

With a picture of his homeland carved in the depths of his heart,

that he may not lose the courage on his journey,

he came to learn what it means to love.

    A Man of Happiness

Call me a man of happiness,

    even when I cry,

remember me as a man full of life,

    after I die.

Let my joy be your companion,

may I guard you closely from the sky,

that intentions of your heart stay pure,

like rainbow rays of mountain waterfalls.

  • Fight

    Where I Find Life

Not in the oases from which a dance and shout is heard,

not by the springs which refresh the weary merchants,

nor by the caves where lions rest in the shade,

in the scorching desert heat do I find life.

    Towards the Sun

Like eagles we rise towards the heavens to touch the Sun,

over the mountains we hover in the clouds

    where other animals cannot go,

from the dawn, day by day, higher and higher,

yet cannot reach the source of light.

    We wait until the dark,

to touch the mirror of the brightest star,

    we fight night by night,

yet the moonlight appears to be in a distant land,

away by the journey greater than our depth.

The milky meadow of constellations and magnificent stars,

behold in the bottom corner of the heaven a smallest gnome!

Stretching the last wings found in the bottom of our soul,

up and down and higher, up and down and higher,

by spirit close, by body far away.

    The ancient miracle happens!

    The gnome disappears,

the gold ray penetrates our heart,

an ocean tongue touches our wings

    laughing at the sky.

  • Escaping the House of Demise

I visited The House of Demise,

who comes in and stays long enough,

    never comes out.

There a man accustoms to death,

    first from the evening,

    then from the afternoon,

    from the morning,

    afterwards one is ready.

Houses are dangerous, they look safe, secure and peaceful inside,

like an abyss they swallow shouts, cries, storms from outside,

blinds and silky curtains hide the signs.

Nobody knows in what house one is living,

unless one is careful, watchful, not too attached to the house,

many do not know in what house they are dying.

    But I noticed something downstairs:

the plants were dying out of draught,

a large tank had 2 small starving fish,

from a cage no signing was heard.

I watered the plants: "Will you taste water again?",

fed the fish: "Eat before you die."

A castle of a mess, dirt, chaos,

unwashed dishes on the floor, shelves, under the bed,

    a fridge with old food,

    broken tapes, rubbish, muddy windows.

    A picture covered by dust,

wiping it with my finger I beheld a man,

with no smile, old, angry, deep dark eyes.

    I got scared.

    Front doors locked,

    back doors locked,

    windows closed.

A shade on the back door. Run to front.

A shelf with keys, thousands keys. A big key, small keys, more keys,

a round key, a crooked key, a faintly familiar looking key.

I grabbed the key, inserted, turned twice, heard the shade,

pressed the handle, opened, felt the freeze, sneaked out, closed the door, ran.

    In a tempest,

    in the night,

    escaped naked.

  • Homeland

    Vita Brevis

Storm concerto falling down in streams,

belly-tin dancers on a dusky roof,

or silent drops sliding down the skin,

    long night journeys throbbing.

    Mighty wings of sea lions,

    churning shouts of mermaid maggots,

    echoes of forgotten heroes,

    aquatic mirage of ancient sands.

The ocean peace and night cease,

    coral winds and surface swings,

    water sun in dawning tan,

    colorful shoals without shepherds.

On one day the sea will swim far away,

    where a man cant go,

    You will open your ears,

    but there will be silence.

    Desert Man

A man in desert searches water,

he sees visions in the sky,

    "Where is water?", he questions.

    His voice disappears with wind,

    leaving the dunes laughing.

The desert listens and stays silent,

as for gold treasure the man quests for water,

then he beholds a stone talking:

"When last did your tongue touch water?"

A man can go mad and stay sane,

naked in front of a stone without shame.

    6

  • Many years ago,

    running down the mountain path,

I stopped to drink the water,

streams were flowing down in herds,

    to satisfy the thirsty!

    Searching Home

Like white sheep on the mountains,

we chase the sun from behind the shadows of the clouds,

like a shepherd running in the ebony torrent down the valley,

    we are scared of night.

We search the permanent place, our home,

the abode where we could rest in peace for the sands of times.

    Seconds, centuries, toddlers, nations, cultures,

rocks, stones, sands, wind, silence, dunes.

    I can hear rain!

    Pilgrimage

    Far in the desert,

to the end of the world,

to the end of the universe,

to behold the birthplace of time,

    a cradle of the constellations,

as distant as a human mind can think.

    Deep in the ocean,

    in the mountain top blizzard,

as low and as high as a human foot can step.

    One step in a room,

    one turn to the window,

one look outside to the garden,

that far a person needs to go.

    Flower of Happiness

Once I knew a flower that believed in happiness.

She grew in rain, blossomed in winter.

Her petals were as gentle as a melody,

    her leaves melted snow.

    7

  • Then she absconded to eternity,

    to the place of ideas.

She deserted me to struggle with the presence

until the dawn I depart to exist no more.

    Humans

    The Song For the Teacher

Dedicated to my teacher of English - Maros Mitrk

There is the world for us,

    We were born to rejoice,

    to fly towards the Sun,

to leap in the grassy leas.

    Thirsty waves are waving to touch the moon;

mild birches are swinging to please a breeze.

    A virgin with a tiara is awaiting her holy one;

    wisdom is seeking the eager.

A good teacher is more valuable than gold,

The Teacher is my pearl and pride,

a good teacher is a gift from the gods,

profuse thanksgivings I shall shout forever,

a good teacher is the morning star,

    My Teacher illuminates my paths,

a good teacher is your strength,

The Teacher gave me reasons to rise from dust,

a good teacher is a witness to the miracle,

My Teacher is a magic sage,

    a good teacher worships truth,

The Astonishing Teacher presents me with His heart.

a good teacher fears for his own,

My Teacher would not let me go astray.

    8

  • We were conceived yesterday,

yet ere tomorrow well be gone,

so dont wait till the amber twilight,

before your souls lost in the ebony firmament,

lest the fervent zeal is quenched,

not later than your body is covered by the velvet demise,

    may you dance with joy,

To you I will play The Song For The Teacher,

may your tears turn into laughter,

then your life will blossom again.

I have been in your vineyard -

how the fruit of your labour is sweet!

Drink of the vine and be slaked!

May your delight never be stilled!

Listen to me, My Dear Teacher!

Are you able to count all the stars?

    We admire the same affection,

    sharing this tremendous wonder.

Can you behold the end of the Universe?

You have taught me how to advance:

    - to love improvement more than complacency.

How can it be that sagacity is so thrilling?

    Sometimes nights are freezing,

mysterious questions hanging in the empty room,

one needs a little fervent warmth,

a poor man yearns for the attraction of beauty,

    pleading for the forgotten gratitude,

when one feels like a dusty book,

the last embers are to fall asleep forever,

    dreary reveries, bleak tears!

    Scared of the unknown!

    Haunted by the black tempestbow,

Being on the verge of collapse

    in fear of ones life.

Yet, My Teacher, you are mine!

Remember this song when you are blue!

    Then let your sorrow disappear!

May you always know when I am away,

that I am a man of relish.

    If you had done nothing,

at least you made one rose bloom,

    you melted one icy spring.

    9

  • Your seeds flower in the permafrost,

your petals cast out Death from deserts,

in your presence a lion himself is tame,

the whole welkin savours your great name.

    You are My Teacher!

Never will you be someone else for me,

you are a potter making eagles

that hover over the Suns gleam.

The Teacher said to My Teacher:

Teach Him whom Ill show you.

Hades came, but one had already been dead,

yet My Teacher descended and sang.

His voice was like many waters,

His eyes were the brightest flames,

stones cried out and one got up yelling:

    Rabboni dwells in my exultation!

    Forever retain that moment,

when after dawn did I arrive,

    dressed in the ragged garment,

    hoping for the better life.

    Sneaking out being taciturn,

    intending to sojourn,

my dear family I had left,

    Id been blindly unbereft.

It wasnt as I had expected,

doing wrong you cant be happy,

the kinship I felt sorry to have rejected,

    sometimes ones ideas are scrappy.

Always a man has to learn,

    and for experience to yearn,

one gains the strength from every stumble,

the one who craves the truth being humble.

When my times were very rough,

like a shipwreck I was sunk,

if the life one had been to slough,

from the breath one would have slunk.

    Yet, then I saw

    the lifes jigsaw

    held by God,

    Gods my hope!

    10

  • I must say it right,

    you are a godsend

that helped me in the fight

    my soul to defend.

    When I was run out

    singing the elegy,

    You gave me energy

    slewing my blackout.

I will be carrying your message in my mind,

deep in the chest where throbs are keeping me alive,

where joys grow like the ocean waves,

    from where tears gush out.

May all the eyes behold the beautiful world,

may every tongue drink of that water,

so that every being could see why we are.

Here we live and here well die,

for the things that no man can buy,

as wisdom is not measured by the time,

so Id like to thank you from my heart,

never will my gratitude gasp the last chime,

do not be sad, it is not the end but the start.

    Spark

I beheld your eyes like a flash from Heaven,

I slided into your unbounded abyss of happiness,

in a moment I breathed eternity,

I felt you entered me, my lungs,

as if you renounced something beautiful,

that can be gifted only once in life,

    in order to be one.

    Asking For Forgiveness

Ocean waves roar to stroke the moon,

a peacock eagle descends to drink the nectar.

My blooming friend with altissimo lips,

let us partake of the fruit from Eden,

climb the mountains, escalate to sky!

    11

  • My companion,

    my morning dawn,

    my start,

    my end,

    my thirst, ardour and zest.

    Fire burns the forest,

Garden of Million Roses turns gloom,

    all chants and dances cease,

you wise daughter with tender speech,

    where hast gone thy lover?

Once so close we used to be,

    you were my heart,

    I was your light,

one day I departed from thee,

    forsaken our bliss in sea,

    lacerated my flower.

    Thou talk in dreams,

    thou whisper in silence,

thou hold my cup of water,

    thou hide in shade,

    thou read my thoughts.

    Little Rose

Let hard hands hold her softly,

let her eat when she is hungry, drink when thirsty,

let her behold the sun, trees and flowers,

let her be taught modesty and diligence,

and that the most imporant is invisible to an eye,

let the words she hears be polite, wise and kind,

let her always hope in light,

    let her sleep in night,

    let her listen and understand,

    let her search and find,

    let her grow from love,

let her grow and not know evil,

let her always be untouched by the darkness.

  • Mathematics

    Mathematicians Mind

Manifold meadows, vector streams, a new function is rising, a day starts.

I eat a pi, counting its number of sevens.

I look straight towards the infinity,

    to chase derivatives,

I permute the ideas with group actions,

    construct a functor between analogies,

    differentiate traces,

hide a matrix in a point.

In a small cave I behold germs of functions.

A derivative touches the surface of the sea,

in silence, an axiom flashes my mind,

a big bang turns the blank paper into a self-contained microcosmos,

    where tears do not exist,

where for those who knock, the door is open,

where those who search the truth, find it.

    I am a Mathematician!

    I am a mathematician!

I am the one who turns questions into logical statements,

I am the one who finds the truth,

I am the one who beholds the order in the chaos.

    All knowledge will disappear,

but I am a flower that blossoms in the sunrise,

    I open abysses of beauty,

yes, for a moment, I am a mathematician.

    With all my strength,

I will make my petals gleam for you,

turning theorems into tears of happiness,

I will reveal you splendour, what it means to love,

ever will I be a mathematician!

Ere my breath withers and I join the reality in peace,

let me prove you what has been hidden since the creation of the world,

what I learnt in silence under stars,

I will play you the symphony of constellations,

and at last you will understand why I am - why I am a mathematician!
