Latex Paint Disposal Latex paint (a.k.a. water-based, acrylic, or emulsion paint) is comprised mostly of water and can be safely disposed of in your household trash as long as it is solidified first.

    TO SOLIDIFY LATEX PAINT

Air dry. Allow the paint to dry by removing the lid and allowing liquids to evaporate. This works well for small quantities of paint (an inch or two in the bottom of the can), and can take several days.

Use a drying agent. Mix in an equal amount of an absorbent material and allow to dry. Use cat litter, sawdust, plaster of Paris, Oil-dri, or waste paint hardeners found at home improvement centers.

Once the paint is thoroughly dry, the remaining hardened paint may be discarded with your regular trash. Leave the lid off the can so the waste collector can see the paint is hardened. Place in a regular trash bag and put it out with your weekly trash.

DO NOT: DO NOT pour paint down the drain, or on the ground or down a storm drain.

DO NOT throw liquid paint in the regular trash.

DEA Drug Take Back Treatment plants are not designed to remove medicines, so they may pass through into rivers and the lake. To dispose of unwanted medicine, keep it in its original packaging, but black out or remove all personal information. Make the medicine unusable: crush or dissolve pills in a small amount of water, absorb liquid medicine with flour or table salt. Secure the package with strong tape, put it inside an empty yogurt or margarine container, and place it in with your household trash. Or you can take part in the:

    National Take-Back InitiativeSaturday, April 25th, 2015

10:00am - 2:00pmDrop off expired/unused medications at the Strongsville Police Station.

Another collection is also planned for the Fall, date to be determined. Contact Strongsville Police Department for date.

What should I do with this? Alkaline Batteries These batteries can be safely disposed of with normal household waste and are classified by the federal government as non-hazardous waste. (AA, AAA, C, D, etc.)

Computer Recycling The City of Strongsville offers Computer Recycling drop-off Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:00 pm at 16099 Foltz Pkwy at the dock garage doors. Acceptable Components: monitors, CPUs, printers, terminals, keyboards, mice, modems, software, cell phones and ink cartiridges. The City transports them to RET3 Job Corp, a non-profit organization. RET3 recycles, reuses and refurbishes 100% of the items donated.

CFL Bulbs Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) are energy efficient and a cost effective lighting alternative to regular incandescent light bulbs. Since CFL contain a small amount of mercury, they should not be placed in the regular trash. Both Home Depot and Lowes offer residential drop off.

Plastic Bag Recycling Plastic bags are one of the most common items of solid waste disposed of in landfills. In an effort to reduce this number, the Strongsville Giant Eagle & Marcs now offers plastic bag recycling. Syringe Disposal Please place syringes in a SHARPS container or heavy duty bottle (i.e. detergent) and mark that it contains SHARPS. Please take the container to the Strongsville Transfer Station, so that it can be properly and safely disposed.

Where can I donate usable items? The Cuyahoga County Solid Waste Districts web site is a great resource. http://cuyahogaswd.org/ This site provides lists of local organizations that either recycle or re-use your items.

United States Flag Retirement When the United States flag (Old Glory) becomes worn, torn, faded or badly soiled and it is time to replace it with a new flag, the old flag should be retired with all the dignity and respect befitting our nations flag. Located near the tennis courts on Zvernia Drive is a drop box where residents can deposit old flags. The Boy Scouts of Strongsville then will properly retire the flags during a retirement ceremony.
