Water Cycle

It describes the continuous movement

of water on, above and below the surface

of the Earth.

process by which water changes from a

liquid to a gas.

Cleaning Water Through a Solar Still

(Evaporation)

A solar still is a low-tech way of distilling water, powered by the heat of the sun.

Explanation

THE EXPERIMENT

MATERIALS

Large plastic bowl

Water

Dust and soil

Dark food coloring

Small, heavy, drinking glass

Clear plastic wrap

Tape

A Pebble

THE IDEA

OUR MATERIALS

PROCEDURE

I. Pour Water into the bowl until it is about 3cm deep

II. Mix dust and soil into the water, add a few drops of food coloring

PROCEDUREIII. Place the clean, dry glass right side up in

the center of the bowl

PROCEDUREIV. Cover the bowl loosely with plastic wrap.

Tape the edges of the plastic wrap to the bowl.

PROCEDUREV. Place the pebble on the plastic wrap directly

over the glass. The pebble should push the plastic down a bit. The plastic must not touch te glass

PROCEDUREVI. Leave the in full sunlight for a few

hours

PROCEDURE

VII. Observe the changes

CONCLUSIONS The principal benefit that this process provides us, is that water can be cleaned with the help of nature.

The resulting water needs to go through another process to be completely clean.

This experiment determines a viable solution to the problem that now affects the whole planet.

CONCLUSIONSThis experiment is not the only way to use the sun's energy to transform dirty water into clean water.

The water cycle is an interesting process that happens every day, everywhere. This whole process can be recreated with a simple experiment using only water, a bowl and plastic wrap.
