General waste

Before commencing any general waste service, we undertake a full waste audit to see where you can reduce your waste impact by reusing and recycling.

Our general waste collection service takes care of all your non-recyclable waste. Whatever the size of your organisation, we have a waste collection package that is right for you.

All our waste collection trucks take the most effi cient routes, helping to save fuel, cut CO2 emissions and reduce costs.

Glass waste

Glass is perfect for recycling; it can be repeatedly recycled into new bottles and jars without its clarity deteriorating. And, by recycling glass, we can conserve non-renewable fossil fuels and reduce the emission of harmful gasses into the atmosphere.

With specialist glass collection routes operating across the North West, and access to state of the art re-smelt facilities, Fresh Start makes glass recycling easy.

Recycling

We can provide single waste stream recycling collections for plastics, paper, card, wood and metal. We can also collect dry mixed recycled waste, often referred to as commingled recycling.

Our mixed recycling service allows you to collect cardboard, paper, cans and plastic bottles all in one bin. We’ll then transport it to one of our own or our partners’ materials recycling facilities (MRFs) for sorting and recycling.

Food recycling

From food preparation to plate scrapings, freezer breakdowns to out of date stock, we’ve been collecting waste food since 2012.

Our specialist containers and compactors range in size from 140 litre to 32 yard3, meaning we can set a service schedule to suit your needs.

100% of all food waste is sent for anaerobic digestion. The resulting methane gas is used in the production of green energy, contributing to the government’s electricity renewables target.

InfrastructureWaste is being increasingly recognised as the fi fth business utility, alongside gas, electricity, telecoms and water.

We empty almost 100,000 bins a month across Greater Manchester, Lancashire, East Cheshire and parts of Merseyside. Through our green energy generation routes and our recycling eff orts, we deliver over 35,000 tonnes of carbon saving each year, a number which looks set to increase as we grow.

Many of our wagons typically cover less than 60 miles per day and meet a number of strict Euro 6 emissions standards, so we are already prepared for the expansion of Ultra Low Emission Zones (ULEZs) throughout the country.

Bin weighing technology

We are committed to the installation of dynamic bin-weighing equipment and software on all new trucks and can track and record the weight of every collection. All installations are Trading Standards approved and meet UK regulations relating to the implementation of EU directive 2014/32/EU.

Euro 6 emissions standards

It’s important to us here at Fresh Start that we play our part in cleaning up emissions from diesel engines, especially reducing particulate matter (PM) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx). That’s why over 70% of our fl eet is fi tted with euro 6 and euro 5 diesel technology, the new driving force in green emissions.

Handheld technology

Linked directly to our back offi ce systems, the use of handheld technology allows us to track work in real time and capture container weights automatically. The driver is able to record observations that need to be brought to the attention of the customer and, once noted, these observations are fl agged to be dealt with by our Customer Service team.

Telematics

Operating a fully integrated fl eet management package ensures we are able to extrapolate vehicle data including GPRS locations (real time and historical), fuel usage and driver behaviour. We can also ensure all routes are correctly optimised.

Specialist recycling

The recycling of any product fi ts into the Waste Framework hierarchy of effi cient and sustainable use of material, meaning we should not be wasting our resources. So, if you are looking to recycle more, we’ll be able to off er advice and recommendations.

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)

The Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations 2013 require most waste products fi tted with a plug or requiring batteries to be handled as a specialist waste. We provide containers for each type of waste and transport it to a specially equipped location for processing.

Hazardous waste

Waste is considered ‘hazardous’ under environmental legislation when it contains substances or has properties that might make it harmful to human health or the environment. The Hazardous Waste Regulations, which came into force in July 2005, set out the regime for the control and tracking of hazardous waste in England and Wales. Whatever your waste stream, our consultants can off er sensible advice and recommendations.

Wood recycling

We provide a wood waste collection service for all types of industries. Our wood is used in the manufacturer ofpanel boards, animal bedding and biomass fuel pellets.

Confi dential waste

Every organisation has a legal responsibility to dispose of confi dential material separately from normal waste. The Data Protection Act 1998 states that data held by an organisation must be kept secure and disposed of safely, ensuring confi dential and personal information is destroyed. With a range of consoles or bins, we off er both on-site and off -site shredding.

Clinical waste

Clinical waste consists of waste arising from healthcare activities that could pose a risk to public health or the environment unless properly disposed of. Defi ned in the Controlled Waste Regulations 2012, clinical waste must be packaged, handled and collected under controlled conditions, and cannot be disposed of with other wastes.

Sanitary waste

The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 recommends that all businesses should ensure all female toilets are provided with a suitable method for disposing of sanitary waste. With a range of signature disposal bins, and wide reaching coverage, we can set a collection schedule to meet your needs.

Metal recycling

With containers for the collection of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, ranging in size from a small skip to large bulk container, we can help you unlock the value of your scrap.

General wasteWe divert over 30,000 tonnes of general waste away from landfi ll for energy generation every year.The energy generated from one tonne of general waste will power 90 computers for an hour; that’s 2.7 million hours a year.

Designed with commercial and industrial customers in mind, our front end loading (FEL) containers are perfect for the containment of large amounts of dry compactable waste.

Once a container has been assigned to your premises, regular scheduled collections will be arranged. Our FEL vehicle will then arrive and compact waste onsite.

After your container has been emptied, we will safely transport your waste to a recycling centre, where it can be processed and appropriately managed.

ROLL ON/ROLL OFF CONTAINERSWe operate a series of open and enclosed high capacity, roll on/roll off containers where waste is bulky or produced in high volumes. Delivered as and when required, or on a regular service schedule, the containers off er the ultimate long-term, high capacity waste container solution.

RecyclingEvery year, we collect over 6,500 tonnes of glass, equivalent to the weight of 13 million wine bottles. If they were laid end to end, they’d stretch over 2,000 miles.

To load this container, simply pump a pneumatic handle and open the full length hinged lid. Once loaded, a single button is used to allow the lid to close smoothly into its locking position. Once sealed, contents cannot be tampered with.

CompactorsOur compactor range is great for organisations producing larger volumes of waste or recyclables. They could also save your business money and help to reduce your carbon footprint.

Static compactor

This medium-sized static compactor is ideal for the compaction of mixed general waste. It can also deal with large volumes of medium to heavy industrial waste including cardboard and wooden crates. Its solid construction with a central compaction cylinder allows an optimal distribution of forces, resulting in longer product lift and minimum wear. This unit can be provided with various confi gurations of feeding hoppers, hopper lids and bin-lifters.
