Siemens Milltronics MSI belt scale now also manufactured in India
The Milltronics MSI belt scale will now be manufactured locally in India, in addition to its existing manufacturing location in Canada. Local production means reduced costs for Indian industries as well as reduced time to market. Customers can now expect delivery in less than 3-4 weeks after placing their order. These scales will come with the same world-class quality and industry-leading weighing technology customers have come to expect from Siemens.

parts, include corrosion-resistant load cells, and are designed for 150% of rated capacity and 300% of ultimate load cell capacity. With approvals for hazardous locations and international legal-for-trade approvals, Milltronics belt scales can be used in almost any industrial environment or application. They are proven in a wide range of tough applications, from extraction (in mines, quarries and pits), to power generation, iron and steel, food processing and chemicals.

Siemens rolls ‘Process Instrumentation’ to Pulp & Paper Industry
A prestigious order of 250 pressure transmitters and 70 magnetic flow meters from a leading paper manufacturing company in Gujarat marked Siemens’ entry in the Pulp & Paper Industry. The order was placed for brownfield expansion and Siemens was chosen as the preferred vendor based on successful demonstration of these products on similar applications in the plant. This break through order has opened new doors for Siemens to be a part of the value chain offering in the Pulp & Paper industries as well.
Captive power plant solution with Process Instrumentation and Analytics
Siemens will now supply, erect and commission various process instruments and gas analysers for a private captive thermal power plant based in south of India. Additionally, Siemens will also provide the complete continuous emission monitoring system for meeting the statutory pollution control norms.
The state-of-the-art field instrumentation & gas analytical products packaged along with erection and commissioning made Siemens the vendor of choice for this project.

New encapsulated antenna for radar level measurement flexibility
maintenance, as the flush-mounted lens antenna is easy to clean and is not required to be removed during clean-in-place (CIP) cycles. Thanks to cost-effective replacement made with exotic materials, the transmitter can be used in corrosive environments, with high pressure or temperature, found in the Chemical, Oil & Gas, and Food & Beverage industries.
Sitrans LR250 is available with HART, PROFIBUS PA, or FOUNDATION Fieldbus protocols. With the graphical Quick Start Wizard, the transmitter is operational in minutes and the infrared handheld programmer supports local programming. Full function diagnostics comply with NAMUR NE 43 and the SITRANS LR250 has also achieved a SIL 2 functional safety declaration, thus making it suitable for use in Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS). Key fields of application for Sitrans LR250 include bulk liquid storage tanks, process vessels with agitators, vaporous liquids and low dielectric media.

The RuggedCom RSG2488 features a modular vertical loading design allowing 10/100/1000TX, 100FX or 1000SX ports to be quickly added or exchanged in the field. The modular structure and hot swappable power supply design simplifies maintenance and allows fast, low-cost re-configuration as requirements change.
Designed to operate from -40C to +85C and with high immunity to EMI per IEEE1613 and IEC61850-3, the RuggedCom RSG2488 can be used in any harsh environment. Conformal coating is also available. The extruded aluminum enclosure and fan-less design ensures simple deployment and low cost operation. A new version of the proven Rugged Operating System (ROS), ROS 4.0, will be available with the RSG2488. While it leverages the advanced technology of the RSG2488, ROS 4.0 has the same user interface as the previous versions of ROS, thereby minimizing operator ramp-up time and expense.
With the introduction of RuggedCom RSG2488 compact rack switch; RuggedCom extends its portfolio of robust network components designed for electric power, transportation and defense applications. This high density layer 2 switch supports up to 28 copper or fiber ports in a compact 1U chassis. The new RuggedCom RSG2488 switch is the first product under the Siemens RuggedCom brand.

Siemens introduces Siwarex WP231, a versatile weighing module for the Simatic S7-1200, that is suitable for monitoring filling levels in silos and bins and for goods being weighed on platform scales. It is the first weighing module for this control and is intended for industries requiring a high level of measurement accuracy, such as the Food & Beverage, Pharmaceutical and Chemical industries. Furthermore it can be used in explosive atmospheres as well. Ethernet connections and an RS485 RTU interface with Modbus protocol enables it to be operated from a Modbus HMI panel without being connected to the Simatic S7-1200 control.
Siwarex WP231 weighing module can be fully integrated into the Simatic S7-1200 control, and its parameters can be quickly and easily set via the TIA Portal engineering platform. The module has four digital inputs and outputs and one analog output. The Siwarex WP231 can be

connected to various systems and operator panels via an Ethernet or RS485 interface with Modbus protocol. This makes it possible for the module to be used in various applications. Additionally, the module can be operated directly from a Modbus HMI panel in the event of failure of the control unit.
Due to its high resolution – one million parts – and a measurement cycle of 10 milliseconds, the Siwarex WP231 is able to measure with a high degree of accuracy. Clear menus mean that the weighing module is easy to operate, whether in conjunction with the Simatic S7-1200 or via a directly connected HMI panel. Moreover, thanks to its automatic set-up function, the measuring system is ready to use within a few minutes.

A ray of hope in the dark
A mine winder is a lifeline of any mine. Many of the mines in India use mine winders for transportation of men and material. They are often the only means of transport for hundreds of personnel in the scary depths of the mine. An occasional failure of power or control may result in a mine load of material and people to be suspended midway for hours. Additionally, absence of any means to communicate with the people in the control room may lead to panic and at times fatal evasive reactions as well. A reliable means of communication then becomes the most important tool to secure help and assurance. The battery powered Siemens SCALANCE W786 along with S7 1200 provides a rugged and extremely reliable means of communication and alarms between those in the mine winder and in the control room. This trustworthy solution, which is a boon for the mine workers, is rapidly being adopted in mines in India.

A smart meter for a smart water grid
The Municipal Corporation of a port city in India was using mechanical turbine meters for measuring industrial water consumption. However the customer was looking for an alternative technology to replace their mechanical turbine meters
due to its associated problems such as wear and tear leading to high maintenance, very low accuracy of 10% etc. Siemens offered its Mag 8000, battery operated Magmeters with wireless communication interfaced to the central control system. Readings from all the Mag 8000 measuring points installed across the city are collected together in the central SCADA system to monitor the water consumption at different time intervals.
This solution helped the Municipal Corporation to effectively monitor its water network and increase its water distribution revenue by approximately 40% annually. Also the customer was able to achieve reduction in their maintenance budget as Mag 8000 Battery magmeters do not have any moving parts. Accuracy of 0.5% offered in Mag 8000 has helped the Corporation to transparently invoice the customers based on their actual usage of

Organic Recycling Systems Pvt. Ltd., a leading integrated solids waste management company uses Siemens MSI Belt scale system for weighing the ‘mixed urban waste’ moving over an open conveyor.
Unique parrellogram load cell design ensures that there are no moving parts in MSI belt scale. One of the leading cigarette manufacturers in India approached Siemens for tracking & tracing of the tobacco samples from the process. For the manufacturer, each and every parameter of the tobacco sample was critical to determine the quality of the cigarette. For this, the
customer required a solution that would track the different blends & brands of the tobacco samples throughout the factory at different process areas.

Performance under pressure
One of the leading chiller manufacturers was facing challenges with vacuum pressure measurement.
Despite deploying various technologies, the customer was unable to achieve accurate and reliable vaccum measurements, which is highly critical in the absorption chillers.
Siemens provided the answer to the manufacturer’s challenge with the state-of-the-art piezo-resistive DSIII series absolute pressure transmitter.
In order to achieve highest reliability, the customer put this transmitter through various test cycles before using it on the application. In all the test results, Sitrans P DSIII emerged as the best choice for reliable measurement in the low vacuum range. In addition to the technical features of the transmitter, the customer also benefited from the excellent support received from Siemens configuration center in India.
Today, customer has migrated to Sitrans P DSIII for all the vacuum measurement applications.
