Radical Days of the Revolution

Radical Phase

One of the bloodiest regimes. Leaders wanted to extend the Revolution. The French were being destroyed by Prussians. Parisians believed that the King was a traitor. Parisians storm the palace and royal family flees(1792). Citizens attack prisons and kill 1,200 prisoners.

Radicals Take Control

Radicals take control of the Assembly. Suffrage is extended to all men. Radicals wants to abolish monarchy. Jacobins controls the convention of abolishing the monarchy. King Louis XVI on trial for being a “traitor”. King Louis XVI and Queen Marie-Antoinette executed(1793).

Safety (CPS) Had Absolute Power

Maximilien Robespierre runs CPS Used terror to control “The first maxim of our politics ought to be

to lead the people by means of reason and the enemies of the people by terror.”

Mostly professional people, doctors, merchants, etc.

Money for own benefit Neglected problems
