Cole Mere
Colemere Country ParkCole Mere is a kettle hole formed at the end of the last glaciation by a huge block of melting ice. The views across the Mere from the surfaced path through Yell Wood are atmospheric and memorable, especially in autumn. Cole Mere is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and RAMSAR site attracting a wide variety of wildfowl and waders.
Path InformationThe car park is divided into two sections. The area to the left is more level making parking and access to cars easier. Access to the Mere is across a soft, grassy, sloping green, although further improvements to the paths are planned. A surfaced path enters Yell Wood and follows the line of the Shropshire Union Canal. Access to the canal towpath itself is via steps or a steep, uneven track.
The path on the southern side of the Mere is unsurfaced and muddy. Access back to the car park from the boat house is difficult and should not be attempted without help.
