2 Kannur Fort

Also known as the St. Angelo's Fort,Kannur Fort takes you back into the Portuguese era.Built in the year 1505 by DomFrancisco de Almeida, the first PortugueseViceroy of India, the fort has severalinteresting tales attached to it. A sneak peekinto its history would tell us that the fortwitnessed several changes in terms ofownership as the Portuguese (the initialowners) lost their power to the Dutch in1663 who later sold the fort to Arakkal RoyalFamily in the year 1772. However, the Britishwent on to become the last owners of thefort and converted it into a major militarystation on the Malabar coast. Today, it ismanaged by the state government andArchaeological Survey of India. Due to itsbeautiful architecture and historicalsignificance,Kannur Fort is a hot favorite among touristswho want to have an interesting glimpse ofthe both. Overlooking the majestic Arabiansea, the fort promises stunning views of thesweeping landscape and scenic beauty andno wonder, its a photographer’s delight intrue sense.

3 Pazhassi Dam
