FALL HARVEST HIGHLIGHTSWe were back at the Makoy Center for our Fall Harvest Festival of Bands and Charity Event on November 24. A good crowd showed up to spend a delightful afternoon with three of Ohio's longest-running and best-loved bands: Ray Heitger's Cakewalkin' Jass Band from Toledo, Dave Greer's Classic Jazz Stompers from the Dayton area, and Buffalo Ridge Jazz Band from the Cincy area.

MIKE DAVIS & THE NEW WONDERS IN FROM NYCWe were thrilled to host a fabulous hot young band from NYC on January 22 at the Rambling House in Columbus. What a show! Dressed impeccably in classy suits and ties the band performed tight and tasteful arrangements of early jazz tunes - respectful of the original source material, but making it their own. Leader Mike Davis' spendid vocals vividlyevoked the bygone era of 1920's radio. The band mixed familiar early jazz standards with many wonderful less often heard songs like "Everything is Hotsie-totsie Now", "It Was Only a Sun Shower", and "Kansas City Kitty." The band's clear enjoyment of the music they played was infectious, and the audience responded with enthusiastic delight. Here's hoping for a return engagement in the near future!

MARDI GRAS WITH SWINGCOLUMBUSCOHJS and SwingColumbus, together with hosts Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Columbus, put on what we hope will be the first of an annual Mardi Gras event. The church provided a tasty Jambalaya dinner, complete with delicious New Orleans King Cakes from 6-7:30, followed by SwingColumbus' dance from 8-10:15 with live music by the Cincy River Rats. The fun continued around the corner at Mikey's Late Night Slice with COHJS sponsoring Brenny's Birdhouse (a more trad focused iteration of the popular Whirlybirds) until 1:30am! A fun night for all!

Adieu Bob AdamsWe were saddened to learn of the passing of Banjo Bob Adams, founder and long-time member of the Buffalo Ridge Jazz Band, in January.

Thanks to all who brought food donations. We delivered about 160 pounds of food to the Holy Family Food Pantry in Franklinton!

Dapper dancers!
