Cognos Application Development Tools:

Product Roadmap – 2005 UpdateThis is an update to the Product Roadmap issued in early 2004 and communicates our current direction

for Cognos Application Development Tools. Cognos will provide an additional update in early 2006.

Continued Maintenance Releases

As part of our commitment to PowerHouse and to support your investment, we will continue to providemaintenance releases for supported platforms. 2004 saw a major enhancement and conformance release

in the 8.4Dx/3.4D version. This year there will be a maintenance release, 8.4xD1/3.4D1.

Conformance

We will continue to investigate new operating system and relational database versions for inclusion in

each maintenance release. For example, the 8.4xD1/3.4D1 maintenance release includes support for

Oracle 9i (9.2) on OpenVMS, and Oracle 10g and DB2 8.2 on UNIX and Windows.

We endeavor to build on the operating system version immediately previous to the currently available version. For the 8.4xD1/3.4D1 maintenance release, this means that we are building on

OpenVMS 7.2, AIX 5L 5.1, and Windows 2000.

As always, the latest Supported Environments document is available from the Cognos Support web site.

Vintage Support for PowerHouse on HP OpenVMS VAX and IBM OS/400

As noted in last year's roadmap, PowerHouse 4GL and PowerHouse Web on HP OpenVMS VAX and

HP Tru64, and PowerHouse 4GL on IBM OS/400 have been matured. Due to customer demand we

will provide Vintage support for PowerHouse 4GL and PowerHouse Web on HP OpenVMS VAX, andPowerHouse 4GL on IBM OS/400. Vintage support is support provided after a product is matured on a

specific platform. Vintage support is provided because not all customers can migrate to another platform

within the PowerHouse maturity time frame. In some cases there are legal requirements for PowerHouse

to be supported. Cognos is providing Vintage support so that these customers can plan for an orderly

migration to another platform. Vintage support provides the following services:

• Customers may continue to log cases with Customer Support.

• Customers may continue to use the Customer Support Knowledge Base via the Internet.

• Cognos will make every effort to satisfy the customer’s technical problem given the restrictions

of Vintage Support.

• Cognos will attempt to provide a workaround solution.

Vintage support has the following restrictions:

• Cognos will not provide any additional versions of the product.

• Cognos will not provide any additional hot site releases, rolling bug fixes (RBFs), or maintenance

releases (MRs).

• Cognos cannot guarantee the compatibility of PowerHouse 4GL or PowerHouse Web on any

future releases of the operating system beyond the release certified for the version of PowerHouse

4GL and PowerHouse Web current at the maturation date.

The HPe3000 MPE/iX Platform

As previously announced, and consistent with Hewlett-Packard’s announcement, PowerHouse 4GL

and PowerHouse Web on HPe3000-MPE/iX will be matured as of Dec 31, 2006. Cognos will

provide full support for PowerHouse 4GL and PowerHouse Web on HPe3000-MPE/iX, includingall maintenance releases and new versions if any, until December 31, 2006, when development

support will end.

We encourage our MPE/iX customers to migrate their PowerHouse applications to one of the other

supported platforms. To assist in the migration planning, we will be publishing an MPE/iX Migration

Planning Guide in the first half of 2005.

Because we know that not all of our MPE/iX customers will be able to migrate by the end of 2006, we will

make extended case-logging support available to those customers who need it until December 31, 2007.

New Platforms

We currently have no plans to port PowerHouse to new platforms. This includes HP-UX and OpenVMS

on Itanium as well as Linux. We have not seen a sufficient customer demand to warrant a new port.

We constantly review the market as well as customer requests in order to react to significant changes.

Any change in our porting plans will be included in the next Roadmap update.

Sincerely,

Robert Berry

Director, Customer Operations

Cognos Inc.

Cognos Application Development Tools Supported Products

This table lists the currently supported Cognos Application Development Tools products and,

where applicable, their mature status dates. Mature status is the date on which development support

(bug fixes and code changes of any kind) ends. Product versions include maintenance releases (MRs).

For example, an entry for version 8.49D includes any maintenance releases based on 8.49D such

as 8.49D1. Any fixes are made in the latest maintenance release. Vintage support is available for

selected products after the maturity date and is denoted by a V after the date. Extended case-logging

support is available for selected products and is denoted by an E after the date. Supported operating

system and database versions are listed in the Supported Environments document that is available

from the Cognos Support web site.
