  • INFORMATION EVERYBODY It can include loss of higher reasoning, forgetfulness, learning disabilities, concentration difficulties, decreased intelligence, and other reductions in mental functions. Cognitive impairment may be present at birth or can occur at any point in a persons lifespan. Head injury and infection of the brain could cause cognitive impairment at any time.

  • FACTS More than 16 million people in the united states are living with cognitive impairment Age is the greatest risk factor for cognitive impairment as the baby boomer generation as age 65 An estimated 5.1 million American's age 64 years or older may currently have Alzheimer's disease, the most well known form of cognitive impairment; this number may rise to 13.2 milling by 2050.

  • ADULTS Among adults, cognitive impairment has been reported in up to 80% of patients with brain tumors, 70%80% of patients with lung cancer, and 40% of patients with acute myeloid leukemia. It has also been reported in up to 75% of patients with breast cancer and in patients treated with bone marrow transplantation after high- dose chemotherapy. Cognitive impairment can continue for a long time after completion of treatment.

  • CAUSES Some early causes of cognitive impairment include chromosome abnormalities and genetic syndromes, malnutrition, prenatal drug exposure, poisoning due to lead or other heavy metals, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid), complications of prematurity, trauma or child abuse such as shaken baby syndrome, or oxygen deprivation in the womb or during or after birth.

  • HOW DOES HE DEAL WITH HIS DISABILITY AND WHAT PROBLEMS CAME ALONG May 10 th He talks to my mom and works out in the garage. Had relationship issues but was surprisingly calm and willing to talk. May 11 th He worked out in the garage to vent is emotions. He got really upset about not having a job or be able to get out or help the family out. May 12 th He helped dad clean the garage no attitude or nothing then went to the store for food came back smiles all day not upsetting or frustration happened May 13 th He was very overwhelmed and upset. He felt as though he let my parents down because he cant find a job and frustrated with person issues May 14 th He slept all morning happy when he work up and was happy when he went to bed. He got frustrated while trying to cook May 15 th Worked all day so he temper or frustration stayed equal levels and calm the night time he got little frustrated May 16 th really calm and happy and relaxed he went to work with a good friend
