Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
(TF-CBT) is an evidenced based treatment for
children ages 3-18 and their families. It is a
components-based model of psychotherapy that
addresses the unique needs of children with
PTSD symptoms, depression, behavior problems,
and other difficulties related to traumatic life
experiences including natural disasters,
accidents, physical and sexual abuse, exposure to
domestic violence, or serious illness. It can also
be applied to children who have experienced
multiple traumas or complicated bereavement.
TF-CBT includes several core treatment
components designed to be provided in a
flexible manner to address the unique needs of
each child and family.
This one day training is designed for practitioners
(CTSS, ARMHS, residential treatment staff,
transitional housing, etc) who work with children
and families who have experienced trauma or
who are participating in TF-CBT therapy. This
interactive and experiential training will include
lecture, demonstration, role plays, and small
group discussions.
The training will include an overview of
childhood trauma, trauma reactive behaviors,
and issues of complex
trauma. Participants will
learn practical skills
related to relaxation,
emotion regulation, and
cognitive coping to
support children who
are participating in
TF-CBT or who are
experiencing issues of
traumatic stress.

During the second two days, participants will share their implementation experiences with the assess-ment instruments and the first five components of TF-CBT. Participants will learn about exposure-based techniques used in the trauma narrative. Participants will learn the last three components of TF-CBT.
