Dear  Prospec%ve  Supporter

Thank  you  for  taking  %me  to  peruse  our  proposal  for  the  2012-‐2013  Track  Season.   We   are   looking   forward   to   developing   rela%onships   across   the  cycling  industry  over  the  next  season!

COG  Cycling’s  mission   is   to   create  a  world   class   track  development   team  capable   of   iden%fying   ,   recrui%ng   and   developing   talent.   We   are   an  enthusias%c  group  of  riders  with  mul%ple  Na%onal  and  World  %tles  across  all  segments  of  the  sport:    Masters,  Elite,  Junior  and  Paralympic.

COG   Cycling   is   dedicated   to   developing   rela%onships   with   partners   who  will   support   our   athletes   and   events   in   exchange   for   promo%on   of   their  product  or  service.

Our  team  provides  visibility  not  only  while  racing.    We  are  developing  track  recrui%ng  and  training  programs  at  both  the  VeloSports  Center   in  Carson,  CA  as  well  as  the  Chicago  VeloCampus  project  and  hope  to  expand  this  to  include  various  other  velodromes.

Our  riders  pride  themselves  on  a  ethical  and  professional  approach  to  the  sport.    Our   team  works  as  a  unit   to   train  and   support  each  other   in  our  endeavors  and   the  commitment   is  evident  every  %me  we  climb  onto   the  boards.    We  share  this  aZtude  in  our  rela%onships  with  our  sponsors.

Please  contact  me  with  any  addi%onal  ques%ons.

WHAT  IS  TRACK  CYCLING?  __________________________________________________________

Track  cycling  has  been  around  since  at   least  1870.     It   is  raced  on  a  venue  called   a   velodrome   which   consists   of   an   oval   shaped   “track”   with   two  highly   banked   180   degree   urns   and   two   lesser   banked   straightaways.  Tracks  are  either  concrete  or  wood  and  vary  in  length.    A  standard  Olympic  velodrome  is  250  meters  long  while  some  of  the  shortest  are  132  meters.

Track  bikes  are  similar  to  road  bikes  in  style,  but  they  have  a  single  “fixed”  gear  and  no  brakes.    Riders  move  smoothly   in  packs  relying  on   leg  speed  and  strength  as  well  as  a  keen  awareness  of  other  riders  posi%ons.    Races  are   as   short   as   the   fast   and   furious   200m   sprint   and   as   long   as   a   50km  Madison  Race.

The  2012  Olympics  has  added  an  Omnium  race  to  the  program.    This  race  consists  of  6  races  over  2  days  with  the  overall  winner  being  the  rider  who  has  placed  highest  in  the  most  events.    It  is  the  true  test  of  the  all-‐around  track  rider  and  a  spectator  favorite!

Of   all   the   disciplines   of   cycling   Track   is   the   fastest.     Elite   riders   have  reached  sprint  speeds  in  excess  of  70kph  during  sprints  and  motor  placed  speeds  of  80  kph.

VENUES  __________________________________________________________

Track   cycling,   especially   in   the   form   of   the   “extreme”   6-‐day   races   in   the  turn  of  the  Century  was  at  one  %me  THE  spectator  sport  in  the  US.    Races  would   draw   tens   of   thousands   of   spectators   to   venues   such   as  Madison  Square  Gardens  and  the  Kenosha,  WI  velodrome.

Through   local   grassroots   efforts   as  well   as   a   new,  more   exci%ng  Olympic  Track  program,  track  racing  is  enjoying  a  growing  renaissance  in  the  US.

There  are  currently  34  ac%ve  velodromes  in  the  US  and  Canada.    Perhaps  most  exci%ng  however,  are  the  groundbreaking  in  Colorado,  the  “portable”  velodrome    being  built   in  Cleveland,   the  movement   to  bring  6-‐Day   races  back  to  the  Armory  in  New  York  City  as  well  as  the  brand  new  Rock  Hill,  SC  velodrome  being  used  for  the  2012  Elite  Omnium  Championships.

These  movements,  all  taking  place  in  the  past  2  years,  are  reigni%ng  track  cycling   in   the  US!    Our   team   is  poised   to  be  a  part  of   this  movement  by  suppor%ng  elite  and  development  riders  so  that  they  may  bring  elite  racing  to  the  new  velodromes    and  showcase  the  immense  talent  in  the  US!

ABOUT  COG  CYCLING  __________________________________________________________

COG  Cycling  was  founded  in  2011  by  Dena  Eaton  aier  she  won  5  Masters  World   Champion  %tles   in   2010.     She   recruited   several   former   Team  USA  riders   as  well   as   several   strong   road  %me-‐trialists  with   the   goal   being   to  race  World  Cup   as   a   Team  Pursuit.    Unfortunately   in  August   2011,  Dena  suffered  a  horrific  crash  during  a  Madison  race.    Fracturing  C7,  T11  and  her  skull,   Dena  was   out   of   compe%%on.    Unable   to   find   a   strong   third   Team  Pursuit   rider,   COG   refocused   on   individual   races   at   Elite   Na%onals   and  garnered  several  podium  spots!

In   January  of  2012,  much   to  everyone’s   surprise,  Dena   started   riding   the  track  again.    She  has  already  raced   in   two  %me  trials  and   is  coming  back  strong.

This  experience  has  propelled  her  to  re-‐brand  the  team  and  look  ahead  to  recrui%ng,    developing  and  suppor%ng  riders  for  the  2016  Olympics.    The  core   Elite   riders   train   under  Olympian   Roger   Young.     The   team   provides  track  introduc%on  and  development  clinics  throughout  the  year  to  recruit  new  riders.    We  hope  to  find  riders  as  passionate  about  track  cycling  as  we  are!
