Coffs Harbour Public School
6th February, 2019
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to our many new families who have joined us this year. We are thrilled to have the honour of educating your children while they are at school. We value the partnerships between home and school and look forward to working with you over the years.
Kindergarten students started school this week. You forget just how small the children are. From all reports the last few days have been very settled and happy. Caitlin Mackie, our Community Liaison Officer organised a ‘Tea and Tissues’ morning tea for all Kindergarten parents to enjoy.
In the table on the following page, I have listed the staff working in our school. We have a number of new staff members and I welcome them all. As our school continues to grow so does our staffing. This year we have 76 staff members. You will notice that we have a lot of extra support staff. This has been a decision we hope will work well to provide further support to all our students and assist the classroom teachers to do the best job possible.
In the next few weeks we will be holding a “Meet n Greet” so that each family can have one to one time with their child’s teacher to get to know each other, share any information pertinent to your child’s education and open the lines of communication.
If ever you are wanting to meet with your child’s teacher, please contact the school on 66523355 and ask for an appointment.
Have a great week, Leonie

Parent Liaison News
Hello Parents
A special welcome to the parents of our Kindergarten students who are starting school this year for the first time. Whether it is your first child or your fifth to come to school the first day is always very important.
It was wonderful to have about 15 parents and younger siblings join us for "Tea and Tissues" for Kindy 2019 parents. Lots of important questions were asked about uniforms, food, school schedules and classes. It was also a great chance for parents to talk and get to know others as they prepare for the next 13 years of schooling!
As parents and families in our school community we have the opportunity to reach out and help others in many different ways. There is a new program run from TAFE at Glenreagh St to help people learn English. The flyer is in this newsletter and you can also ask me questions.
I will be around the school saying Hi and checking to see how I can help each parent to enjoy their school experiences.

Administration Building
Joinery has started along with placing new windows and doors into the building.
Library
Planning is underway for the concrete pour of the first floor sometime next week. Columns will then be
erected and structural steel.
New Classrooms
A new canteen ceiling has been built. In the new classrooms the wiring for the lighting and the power for
the ceiling has been completed. The next job will be the sheeting on walls.
Our teachers have been very busy setting up their new classrooms for 2019. We look forward to seeing all the wonderful things our students create.
3/4M have been enjoying their first week together. We have all been learning lots about one another and making new friends. This term we will be participating in a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) project about chickens. We are looking forward to a year full of learning, fun and lots of adventure.

The school community is
concerned about ways to make
our morning drop off routine
safer. Parent’s cars should not
enter the bus zone between
8am - 9:30am & 2:30pm - 4pm.
This means that children can use
the crossing safely without cars
entering the area. The best place
to drop your child off in the
morning, is further down
Salamander Street.
in the afternoon children line
up and are led down by a
teacher to Curacoa Street
where parents are able to park
easily and safely. This is
suitable for K-6 students.
Keeping Your Child Safe - Road Safety
Our School Canteen will be operational this year on Thursday and Fridays.
Please make sure all orders are in to the canteen by 9:30am.
Our new ‘School Canteen’ menu for 2019 will come home next week.
