Filling the water tank1. openthewatertanklid(fig.1)andthenliftthetank

(fig.3).Re-positionthetankbypressingitlightlyinplacetoopenthevalvesituatedonthebaseofthetankitself.
3. Alternately,donotremovethetank,fillbypouringinwaterfromajug.
Attention: do not operate the appliance without waterinthetankandalwaysfillitwhenthewaterisafewcentimetersfromthebottom.

HOW TO PREPARE ESPRESSO COFFEEPre-heating the coffee machineitisadvisedtopre-heatthecoffeemachineasfollowsinordertoobtainanespressocoffeeattherighttem-perature:1. PresstheoN/offbutton(therelativeindicatorlight
switches on) (fig. 4) and attach the empty filter-holdertothemachine(fig.5)byfittingfilterholderintoplaceandturningfromlefttoright.
2. Placea cupunder thefilter-holder.Use the samecupinwhichthecoffeeistobeservedsothatitcanbepre-heated.
3. WaituntiltheoKlightcomeson(fig.6)andthenpressthecoffeebutton(fig.7).AllowthewatertorununtiltheoKlightswitchesoffandthenstopthewaterbypressingthecoffeebuttonagain(fig.7).

HOW TO PREPARE THE ESPRESSO USING GROUND COFFEE1. Afterhavingpre-heatedthemachineasdescribed
in thepreviousparagraph, insert theground cof-feefilterintothefilter-holder,makingsurethattheprojectioniscorrectlyinsertedintotherelativeseatasindicatedinfig.8.Usethesmallestfilterforonecoffeeorthelargeronetomaketwocupsofcof-fee.
2. Toprepareonecoffee,fillthefilterwithalevelmea-suringscoopofgroundcoffee, about 2 tsp (7g)(fig.9).ifyouwishtopreparetwocupsofcoffee,fill the filter with two less-than-level measuringscoopsof ground coffee (1 tbspor 12g). fill thefilterwithsmallamountsata time toprevent thecoffeespillingout.
Attention: forcorrectuse,beforefillingthefilterwithgroundcoffeealwaysmakesurethereisnoresidualcoffeeinthefilterfromthepreviousinfu-sion.
3. Distribute the ground coffee evenly and press itlightlyusingthecoffeetamper(fig.10).
Pressingthegroundcoffeeisveryimportanttoob-

tainagoodespresso.ifyoupresstoohard,thecof-feewillrunoutslowlyandthecremawillbedark.ifyou press too lightly, the coffee will run out too fast andthecremawillbeverylight.
4. Removeanyexcesscoffeefromtherimofthefilter-holderandattachittothemachine:turnthegriptotheright(fig.5)topreventwaterfromescaping.
5. Position the cup or cups under the filter-holderspouts (fig. 11). it is recommended towarm thecupsbeforemakingthecoffeebyrunningthemun-der hotwater or leaving them to pre-heat on thecupwarmerforatleast15-20minutes(fig.12).
6. MakesurethattheoKlight(fig.6)ison(ifitisoff,wait for it to switch on) and press the coffee button (fig.7).oncethedesiredamountofcoffeehasbeenobtained,pressthesamebuttonagain(fig.7).(itisrecommendednottorunthecoffeeformorethan45seconds).
7. Turnthegripfromrighttolefttoreleasethefilter-holder.
Scalding hazard! Toprevent sprays, do not re-lease the filter-holder while themachine is dis-pensingcoffee.
8. Toremovetheusedcoffee,lockthefilterusingtheleverinthegripandletthecoffeefalloutbyknock-ingtheover-turnedfilter-holder(fig.13).
9. Turnthemachineoffbypressingtheon/offbutton(fig.4).
Attention: Beforeusingthemachineforthefirsttimeallaccessoriesandinternalcircuitsmustbewashedbymakingatleastfivecupsofcoffeewi-thoutusinggroundcoffee.
HOW TO PREPARE THE ESPRESSO USING PODS1. Pre-heat the machine as described in the “PRe-
heATiNGThecoffeeMAchiNe”chapter,makingsure that the filter-holder is attached to the ma-chine.hottercoffeeisobtainedinthisway.
Information: usepodsthatcom-ply with the ese standard: thiswillbeindicatedonthepackagingbytheicontotheright.Theesestandardisasystemac-ceptedby the leadingcoffeepodmanufacturersand allows espresso coffee to be made simplyandwithoutmakingamess.
2. Place the small filter in the filter-holder, makingsure that the projection is correctly inserted intotherelativeseatasindicatedinfig.8.
3. insertthepod,centeringitasfaraspossibleonthefilter(fig.14).Alwaysfollowtheinstructionsofthepodpackforcorrectpositioningofthepodonthefilter.
4. Attachthefilter-holdertothemachine,byinsertingthefilterhandleontheleftsideofthemachineandthenturntotheright(fig5)topreventwaterfromescaping.ensurethathandleistightlyattachedtothemachine(fig.5).

HOW TO MAKE CAPPUCCINO1. Preparetheespressocoffeeasdescribedinthepre-
viousparagraphs,usingcupsthatarelargeenoughtoholdboththeespressoandfrothedmilk..
2. Pressthesteambutton(fig.15).3. inthemeantime,fillacontainerwithabout1/2cup
ofmilk for everycappuccino tobeprepared.Themilkmustbecoldandatrefrigeratortemperature(not hot!).When choosing the frothing containerconsider that thevolumeof themilkwill increaseby2or3times.
Information: it is recommended to use semi-skimmedmilkatrefrigerator temperature(41°f/5°c).
4. Positionthecontainerwiththemilkunderthefroth-er.
5. Waitfortheindicatorlightnexttothesteambuttontoswitchon(fig.16).Thisindicatesthattheboilerhasreachedtheidealtemperaturefortheproduc-tionofsteam
6. openthesteamtap(2)forafewsecondstoremoveanywaterpresentinthecircuit.closethetap.
7. Dipthefrotherintothemilkafewmillimeters(fig.17)makingsurenottoimmersetheraisedlineonthe cappuccinomaker (indicated by the arrow infig.17).Turn theknobcounterclockwise (fig.18)foratleasthalfarotation.steamescapesfromthefrothergivingthemilkacreamyappearanceandin-creasingitsvolume.Toobtainacreamierfroth,dipthefrotherintothemilkandturnthecontainerwithslowmovementsfromthebottomupwards.
8. Whenthevolumeofthemilkhasdoubled,dipthefrother far down into the frothing container and continue toheat themilk.When thedesired tem-perature(idealvalue is140°f/60°c)andthede-siredmilk froth have been reached, interrupt thesteam by turning the steam knob clockwise andreleasethesteambutton.Usetheon/offbuttontoswitchthemachineoff(fig.4)(Theon/offindicatorlightswitchesoff).
9. Pourthefrothedmilkintothecupscontainingthepreviously-prepared espresso coffee. The cap-

puccino is ready: add sugar at will and if desired, sprinklea littlepowderedchocolateon topof thefroth.
Information• ifmorethanonecappuccinoistobeprepared,first
makeallofthecoffeesandthenpreparethemilkforall of the cappuccinos;
• ifmorecoffeemustbepreparedafterthemilkhasbeenfrothed,allowtheboilertocoolfirstotherwisethecoffeewillbeburned.
To cool it, position a container under the filter-holder spouts(fig.11),pressthesteambuttonandallowwatertorunoutuntilthesteamfunctionlightswitchesoff:thenpreparethecoffee.
Donotdeliversteamformorethan60secondsatatimeorfrothmorethan3timesconsecutively.
Attention:thefrothermustalwaysbewashedaf-terusetoensureproperfunctioningandsterility.
Proceedasfollows:1. Dischargeasmallamountofsteamforafewsec-
onds (seepoints2,5 and6of thepreviouspara-graph) by turning the steam knob (fig. 18). Bydoingthis,thefrotheremptiesanymilkleftinside.switch the machine off by pressing the oN/offbutton.
2. Useonehandtoholdthecappuccinotubeandtheother to release the frothing cover by turning itclockwiseandpullingitdownwards(fig.19).
Danger! Donottouchstainlesssteeltubethatat-tachesfrothertomachine.Thiswillbeveryhotafterfrothing.
3. Removethefrothingnozzlefromthetubebypull-ingitdownwards(fig.20).
4. Wash the frother and nozzle thoroughly in warmwater.
5. Makesure that the twoholes indicatedby thear-rowsinfig.21arenotblocked.cleanusingapinifnecessary.
6. Re-mountthefrothingnozzlebyinsertingitfirmlyupwardsintothesteamtube.
7. Re-mountthefrothingcoverbyinsertingitupwardsandturningitcounterclockwise.
PRODUCTION OF HOT WATER1. switchthemachineonbypressingtheon/offbutton
(fig.4).WaitfortheoKlighttoswitchon(fig.6).2. Positionacontainerunderthecappuccinomaker.3. Pressthecoffeebutton(fig.7)andturnthesteam
knobcounterclockwiseatthesametime(fig.18):thehotwaterwillescapefromthefrother.
4. To interrupt the hot water, turn the steam knobclockwise and press the coffee button again (fig.7).
Maximumdeliveryof 60 seconds is recommend-ed.
ClEANING
Danger! Beforeperforminganycleaningopera-tionsoftheexternalpartsoftheappliance,switchthemachineoff,removetheplugfromtheoutletandletthemachinecooldown.
Cleaning and maintenance of the filterclean thefilter-holderandgroundcoffeefiltersaboutevery300coffeesandwhen thecoffeedrips throughthefilter-holderanddoesnotflowcompletely:• Removethefilterfromthefilter-holder.• Unscrewthefiltercap(fig.22)inthedirectionindi-
catedbythearrowonthecapitself.• Removeallpartsoffilterbypushingtheblackrub-
berholderandmetaldiscoutoffilter.Removethemetal disc from its backing. (There should be 5separatepiecestothefilter)
• Rinseallcomponentsandcleanthemetalfilterdiscthoroughlyusinghotwaterandabrush(fig.23).checkthattheholesinthemetalfilterdiscarenotblocked.ifthisisnotthecase,cleanthemusingapin(seefig.24).
• Re-mount thefilterbyplacing themetaldiscandbackinginsidetheblackrubberholderasindicatedinfigure25.Makesurethattheplasticdiscpinisinsertedinsidetheholeintheblackplasticholderasindicatedbythearrowinfig.25.
• Re-insert the black rubber holder that containsmetaldiscandbacking into themetalholder(fig.26),making sure that thepin is inserted into theholeofthesupportitself(seearrowfig.26).

theespressoboileroutlet(fig.27);• Removetheboileroutlet;• cleantheboilerusingadampcloth(fig.27);• clean the boiler outlet disc thoroughly using hot
water and a brush. check that the holes are notblocked.ifthisisnotthecase,cleanthemusingapin(fig.24).
• Rinsetheboileroutletdiscunderthetap,rubbingcontinuously.
• Re-mounttheboileroutlet,payingattentiontopo-sitionitcorrectlyonthegasket.

Other cleaning operations1. Donotusesolventsorabrasivedetergentstoclean
themachine.Useasoft,dampcloth.2. cleanthefilter-holdercup,thefilters,driptrayand
watertankregularly. To empty the drip tray, remove the cup warmer
grid,removethewaterandcleanthetrayusingacloth:thenre-assemblethedriptray.
clean thewater tank using a soft bottle-brush inordertoreachthebottom.
Danger! Duringcleaning,neverimmersethema-chineinwater:itisanelectricappliance.
DESCAlINGitisrecommendedtodescalethemachineaboutevery200coffees.We recommend using De’longhi approved descalerwhichisavailablethroughcustomerservice.followthisprocedure:1. fill thetankwiththedescalingsolutionanddilute
the solution with water, following directions on the descalingsolutionpackage.
2. Presstheon/offbuttonandwaitfortheoKlighttoswitchon.
3. Makesurethatthefilterholderisnotattachedandpositionacontainerundertheboileroutlet.
4. Pressthecoffeebuttonandallowabout1/4ofthesolution contained in the tank to flow out: everynow and again turn the steam knob and allow asmallamountofsolutiontoescape;theninterruptbypressingthebuttonagainandleavethesolutiontoactforabout5minutes.
5. Repeat point 4 another 3 times, until the tank iscompletelyempty.
6. Toeliminateresiduesofthesolutionandlimescale,rinsethetankwellandfillitwithcleanwater(with-outdescaler).
7. Pressthecoffeebutton(fig.6)andoperatetheap-plianceuntilthetankiscompletelyempty;
