Labour Day September 7th: For many countries,

"Labour Day" is synonymous with, or linked with,

International Workers' Day, which occurs on 1 May.

Some countries vary the actual date of their

celebrations so that the holiday occurs on a Monday

close to May 1st.

Labour Day has been celebrated on the first Monday in

September in Canada since the 1880s. The origins of

Labour Day in Canada can be traced back to December

1872 when a parade was staged in support of the

Toronto Typographical Union's strike for a 58-hour

work-week.

While Labour Day parades and picnics are organized by

unions, many Canadians regard Labour Day as the

Monday of the last long weekend of summer. Non-

union celebrations include picnics, fireworks displays,

water activities, and public art events.

Fall Foliage in Quebec

Fall in Québec sweeps in with a burst of colour, aroma

and flavor. As September draws to a close, the forests

don fiery hues as the leaves turn their characteristic

reds, yellows and oranges. Vines and orchards are laden

with fruit, while clouds of snow geese fill the skies in a

spectacular pre-Christmas pageant. With its dry, crisp

air and brilliant blue skies, fall is the perfect time for

long rambles through the hills and leisurely bike rides

along country roads.
