COE 2 Sebastian Thrun Udacity.

In Jan there was a editorial in New York Times for online course. And SJSUwill be conducting this course for credits. Sebastian Thrun is Vice president inGoogle. Co founder of online MOOC (Massive open online course ) provider i.e.Udacity. Also a research professor in computer engineering at Stanford. Sebastianhas also given a lecture on TED for driverless car, a innovation my Google. In 2011took AI course online. They offered this course online and free. This was the first step in the series of online courses and one of the big motivators. Bill Gates fundsthe online courses made by Udacity and partnered with SJSU. He is an activemember in implementation team of driverless car and the Google glass. This ideabegan when he started realizing that students have started preferring professorteaching to video tutorials on YouTube or other media.

Looking at the huge response to the online courses, Stanford closed downthis idea of online classes. However Sebastian continued with this idea and started asmall company with the help of grad students to record lectures. The thing donehere differently is that he recorded only the exercises. Only a pen and paper isrecorded in the exercise. Also the videos had inbuilt question and answers. So theuser had to select an answer to the question asked, then the video would progressforward.

Looking at the courses, Sebastian also got a lot of volunteers to recordtranslate these lectures in different languages. Then he devices a new way of creating the new tutorials on iPad. In the symposium he also gave us the demo of building an application on iPad.

Also there is a new way to look at the game of Angry birds. This interactiveway used teaches theory of projectiles with the game of Angry Bird. This bringsabout a new dimension in ways of teaching. This is the way that students will reallyenjoy.

This program helped people in remote locations and varied field to resumestudies and get knowledge of basic maths and then proceed to higher level of studies like computer science and Artificial intelligence.

There are various codes for AI and you can edit those online. There is also aspecial program to check and compile codes. Which helps engineers to compileprograms online.

Thus Udacity has proved very useful as an online course provider. This has

enabled people from remotest location connected to Internet, to gain knowledgefrom various courses offered.
