SUMMARYGathering Blue, by Lois Lowry shows us that

just because you are weak doesn’t mean you are useless. To begin with, Kira is a girl who is a skilled weaver with a twisted leg and lives where weak are killed. However, Kira’s father died before her birth and her mother died recently. So, a woman named Vandara tried to kill Kira. Ironically, the Council of Guardians says she can live if she weaves the singer’s robe. So, she meets her new neighbor Thomas the carver who is her age. Then Kira meets a old woman named Annabella who teaches her dyes and tells her about a rare blue dye. Then, Annabella is killed and Matt (Kira’s friend) disappears. A while later, Matt returns with a surprise.

It is called Gathering Blue because at the end of the book Matt brings back Kira’s father to the village and Kira’s dad has the rare color blue on his shirt.
