Article 6Supervision and
implementation of the code
2. To this end, they should participate inContinuous Professional Development(CPD) throughout their working lives.
3. European Chartered Engineers shallassist their junior colleagues in theirprofessional development, especially bysharing their experiences.
Chamber of the host country will informthe Chamber of the home country about allrelevant circumstances.
3. If the Chamber of the home countryreceives sufficient information, it willexamine the case and apply disciplinaryprocedures in accordance with thenational legal and statutory requirements.It will inform the Chamber of the hostcountry about the actions taken.

“European Chartered Engineers” areEngineers in Europe, who are members oftheir national Chambers and legallyauthorized according to their nationallegislation.
European Chartered Engineers safeguardquality of life and protect public interest aswell as consumers' interests. They bearresponsibility for the functioning of thecomplicated as well as the easy processesof daily life. With their professionalintellectual services they contribute tosecure prosper i ty, protect ion ofenvironment, technical progress andsustainable development and therefore tothe improvement of living conditions forpresent and future generations. They arepromoters of culture and progress.
Knowledge, experience and know-how,together with a high standard of ethical andmoral demands, guarantee the highestlevel of quality of engineering services.This is warranted by legal authorizationand the disciplinary regulations of thenational Chambers.
1. According to article 37 of the Directiveon Services in the Internal Market(2006/123/EC), ECEC issues this code ofconduct to facilitate the cross-borderprovision of engineering services andestablishment in another Member State.
The code takes into account the ECWorking Paper “Enhancing the Quality ofServices in the Internal Market: The Roleof European Codes of Conduct” published
by the DG Internal Market and Services in2007.
2. This code is intended to ensure thehighest standard of professional conductamong European Chartered Engineers.European Chartered Engineers areobliged to respect this code of conductwherever they provide their services,temporarily or permanently.
1. European Chartered Engineers andtheir employees must respect and properlyapply all European and national laws,regulations, technical rules, acceptedstandards, norms and codes of practiceappropriate to their profession or specialityand to the services entrusted to them.
2. European Chartered Engineers arepersonally responsible for their work.
3. European Chartered Engineers areaware of their responsibility towards thegeneral public and the environment.
4. European Chartered Engineers arerequired to fulfil their tasks with care anddiligence. They take full account oftechnical improvements and developmentsin their field of expertise and incorporatethese improvements and developmentsinto their intellectual services. They areready to lead the innovation of and searchfor new solutions and methods.
5. European Chartered Engineers mayonly provide services for which they havethe necessary competence. They makesure that the required competence for theprovided services exists within their ownfirms or the firms of their cooperationpartners.
1. Confidentiality is the cornerstone for thebuilding of trust between professionalsand their clients.
2. European Chartered Engineers mustrespect and safeguard the confidentialityof information acquired in the course ofproviding services and ensure thatinformation about the client is notdisclosed to others except in specifiedcircumstances and, where possible, withthe informed consent of the client.Members of staff and cooperation partnersmust also comply with these rules.
3. European Chartered Engineers willinsure that any member of staff to whom atask is delegated has the knowledge andskills necessary to undertake that taskeffectively and efficiently. There shouldalso be appropriate supervision.
4. European Chartered Engineers mustnot accept any direct or indirectcompensation for themselves or otherpersons from a third party, which couldendanger their duty to safeguard theclient's interest.
5. The client has a right to expectassessment of circumstances to be carriedout and decisions to be made impartiallyand objectively, without pressure fromexternal sources and without conflicts ofinterest.
6. European Chartered Engineers willinform their clients about the insuranceheld, or other form of guarantee which isequivalent or comparable, in order to coverliabilities in the event of adverse effectsresulting from errors or omissions made inthe provision of an engineering service.
1. In their professional relations withcol leagues, European CharteredEngineers shall behave with the greatestloyalty and honesty in order to affirm acommon culture and professional identityin all fields in which the profession isinvolved.
2. European Chartered Engineers mayonly take on an assignment previouslyexecuted by colleagues provided that theprevious contracts have been terminatedor denounced.
3. European Chartered Engineers shallstrictly respect the copyrights of others.

1. European Chartered Engineers areobliged to keep their knowledge in theirfield of practice up-to-date and will extendtheir competencies as the demand for newservices develops.

7. Advertising is an important means ofinformation for the client and thereforemust not be deceitful.
8. European Chartered Engineers mustdefine, or cause to be defined, theirservices, terms and remuneration asclearly, accurately and completely aspossible. They guarantee that the methodof calculating fees is transparent for theclient in order to protect the information ofthe latter and to avoid any competitiondeemed to be unfair.
