WELCOMEDAY 1 & 2

1 SATURDAY ARRIVAL –SAN JOSE

Arrival to the Juan Santamaria International Airport. Welcome and transportation to your hotel located in the outskirts of the city. Rest of the afternoon to get acquainted with the city and for our orientation and welcome dinner.

SUNDAYPOAS VOLCANO NATIONAL PARK AND LA PAZ WATERFALL GARDENS

Early breakfast and 7:00am departure for a great day where a lot of Costa Rica is seen. Departing towards the mountains of the Central Valley with wonderful views of the coffee and ornamental plants plantations towards the Poas Volcano National Park. An active volcano with fumarole activity, the Poas has a superb dwarf cloud forest and one of the largest craters in the world. After visiting the crater and a hike up to Botos Lake; Continuation towards La Paz Waterfall Gardens, a great place with 5 waterfalls, the biggest butterfly farm in the country and tons of hummingbirds; Buffet lunch. On our return trip to San Jose we will stop to visit the coffee plantations and take pictures of the views. Arrival to the city around 4:00pm.

2MONDAYWHITE WATER RAFTING - SARAPIQUI

The Pacuare is the quintessential tropical river. Along its course lie several densely vegetated gorges with virgin rain forest and one of the best whitewater in all of Central America, ranging up to Class V in difficulty. The lowland tropical forest here is remarkable for its luxuriant variety and the amazing abundance and diversity of wildlife found within it. Amazing day to remember forever! Transportation at the end of the river towards our Sarapiqui location, our destination, La Selva, comprising 3,900 acres of tropical wet forests, one of the most important sites in the world for research on tropical rain forest.

TUESDAY SARAPIQUI – GUIDED FOREST HIKE AT LA SELVA – TORTUGUERO

Private two hour guided walk scheduled at 6:00am. Excellent bilingual naturalists lead the walks that give a glimpse of the leading-edge research conducted at La Selva as well as the Natural History of the Tropical Rain Forest. Our transportation will pick us up around 9am towards the North Caribbean little Amazon of Costa Rica driving by banana plantations up to Caño Blanco. Unbelievable boat ride through the Tortuguero canals arriving between 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. At the lodge our staff will be waiting with a refreshing cocktail, and the guide will explain the afternoon activities after lunch -the visit to the Turtle Museum and to the colorful Tortuguero town. Free time to enjoy the pool, the bar service and prepare for your dinner. Dinner service and rest of the evening to enjoy the surroundings, pool and bar. As an optional tour you can do the turtle tour at night with the local guide.

3 WEDNESDAY TORTUGUERO – MORNING AND AFTERNOON NATURE BOAT TOUR

Optional 6:15 am tour to admire the awakening of the wildlife. Return for breakfast (service between 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.). Then another boat tour to admire the canals of Tortuguero National Park. This is a wonderful and interesting experience where you can see abundant flora and fauna of Tortuguero National Park. Return to the lodge for lunch and free time for a siesta, enjoy the pool or go for a walk to the beach. Then you have another optional tour to the canals or stay at the lodge to explore the private trails of the lodge, visit the open butterfly garden or simply enjoy the pool. Dinner at the lodge.

THURSDAY TORTUGUERO - CAHUITA

After breakfast we will begin our trip back at around 9:00 a.m. The boat will arrive at Caño Blanco around 11:00 a.m. There our bus will drive us directly to Cahuita at the South Caribbean Coast, a unique area, completely universal in it’s ethnicity and culture. Our last hotel is a quaint small retreat in the midst of a tropical garden with hundreds of species of colorful birds, Private patio overlooking the garden and pool, and a hammock, all you need to enjoy… maybe a surf class later?

4FRIDAY CAHUITA

Breakfast includes fresh juices, homemade bread, eggs "as you want", cereals, tropical fruits, chocolate and Costa Rican coffee, a selection of teas, crumble Apple Cinnamon, the best breakfast we have ever had. Full day to sit or lay on the beach.

SATURDAY CAHUITA - DEPARTURE FROM JUAN SANTAMARIA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IN SAN JOSE

We suggest an overnight stay at an airport hotel, since we are five hours away. We will leave you at the airport the next day.
