analysis and drafting for boiler

Who are Cochran? Cochran are the UK’s largest manufacturer of steam boiler products supplying to 100 different countries around the world. Cochran has the capability and capacity to manufacture a full range of steam and hot-water boilers up to 30MW in output and with working pressures up to 40 bar.

The Business Need Customer requirements outside their normal scope of work meant that Cochran needed the assistance with the layout, analysis and drafting of boiler plant pipework. Rather than reject the entire project Cochran outsourced this aspect of the project to 4c Design.

Our Activities and Deliverables 4c Design took the initial two-dimensional piping layout diagram and converted it into a full three dimensional room layout. This allowed all the components to be shown in such a way that the path and clearances between critical parts could easily seen. Additionally, in conjunction with our Finite Element Analysis partners we full pipe stress analysis so that the pipework would meet all relevant regulations. With the analysis and the 3D model the layout could be modified to function efficiently and safely.

The Benefits The 3D model allowed 4c Design and Cochran to easily identify potential clearance, operator safety, fabrication or functionality issues to modify the design before building, avoiding expensive (time and money) reworks. Our work also allowed Cochran to take on this project that they would not have been able to complete themselves.
