On Friday, December 4th, over

one hundred guests from

CCHA member hospitals and

healthcare partners throughout

the region came together at

the Holiday Inn Resort on Wrightsville

Beach for Alliance Day 2015. Event

highlights included a fantastic keynote

address from

Rich Bluni, RN,

of The Studer

and business

partner sponsors,

We heard several great messages on a

variety of topics related to CCHA

programs and initiatives. Dr. Sam

Spicer delivered remarks as outgoing

Chair of the CCHIE Governance Board,

providing an overview of CCHIE’s

progress and next steps. Jay Briley,

President of Vidant Duplin Hospital,

also gave an update on a successful

year for Illucient Purchasing Alliance,

touching on Illucient’s footprint and

contract portfolio growth.

As we marked our 25th year of regional

collaboration and impact, we had a

special treat for our guests: members

of the original CCHA Board of Directors

joined in the celebration. Bill Clark,

former CEO of Columbus Regional

Healthcare System; Luckey Welsh,

former CEO of

Joseph “Joe”

CEO of Cape

and Leo Petit, Residents Reception 2015

Twenty residents currently training

at New Hanover Regional Medical

Center joined us on September 30th

for our annual Residents Reception

event. Each year we invite residents

to meet with recruiters

from our member

hospitals and discuss

career opportunities

throughout the region.

It’s a great way of

retaining talent in this

region.

Attendees enjoyed drinks and light hors

d’oeuvres throughout the evening. We

wrapped up with prize drawings. This year,

our Grand Prize contained over $1,000 in

locally donated gifts. Thank you to all who

attended this great event!

Illucient and Operations Update

The Illucient Purchasing Alliance

continues to have steady

growth. We currently have 105

agreements in the portfolio. As

this number continues to

increase, we turn our attention to internal

marketing. The Illucient team is planning

a series of educational sessions, which

will be conducted online.

These short sessions will provide a high-

level overview of Illucient and be tailored

to various teams, including a review of the

Illucient contracts specific to those teams.

Additional team sessions and dates will

be scheduled after the initial sessions in

January.

January dates and team focus

include:

January 19: Business Office/

PFS Directors

January 19: Nursing and

Ancillary Services

January 20: Supply Chain

January 26: Nursing and

Ancillary Services

January 26: Business Office/

February 9: HIM

We look forward to these upcoming information sessions with our Illucient

member hospitals!

former CEO of Bladen County Hospital were

all in attendance. Mr. Petit had the original

vision for the organization, and he was kind

enough to say a few words about the

founding of CCHA.

Alliance Day 2015 was a fantastic

opportunity to look back and measure our

growth as an organization. We would like to

thank everyone who attended, and we look

forward to many Alliance Day celebrations to

come!

The Duke Endowment Awards Funds to Continue

Advancing Regional Exchange Efforts

Another goal of the grant will be to route

Community Health Record data to CCHIE

Stakeholders’ analytics tools. Healthcare

analytics is a crucial driver of medical

decision making. Establishing the

connection between the data located

within the HIE with these cutting edge

tools will ensure that

providers will have the

best resources at their

disposal.

Support from our

founding stakeholders – Dosher

Memorial, New Hanover Regional

Medical Center, Pender Memorial,

Southeastern Health, and Wilmington

Health – has allowed CCHIE to support

electronic, patient-centric data exchange

throughout our region. We sincerely

thank The Duke Endowment for

accepting our proposal and continuing to

be a valued partner of CCHIE.

In November, Coastal Connect

Health Information Exchange

(CCHIE) was excited to receive

confirmation from The Duke

Endowment that $740,661 had

been awarded to the HIE for continuing

regional efforts around data exchange

and data utilization for

care improvement.

CCHIE makes patient

information available

at the point of care.

This helps optimize connected providers’

treatment and care of patients. From a

regional standpoint, the HIE helps

providers begin to discern patterns of

health outcomes across communities.

Population health is one of the goals of

our accepted grant proposal; by

integrating additional ambulatory

providers to the HIE, we can maximize

data availability for population health.

CCHA Grant Submissions Focus on Regional Impact

It’s been a very busy season for

our grants program. CCHA writes

grant submissions for both our

own programs/initiatives and on

behalf of our member hospitals.

We’re thrilled to announce that several of

our submitted grants have received

funding. Several others are still in queue.

Here is a quick glimpse at the array of

grant submissions currently in progress or

awarded:

CCHIE received a grant award from

The Duke Endowment in the amount

of $740,661 (see previous article for

additional details about this grant)

Mobile Sim Program awarded a

$35,000 grant from the Cape Fear

Memorial Foundation to purchase a

cargo van.

Columbus Regional Healthcare

System was awarded a $150,000

grant to support the purchase of a

HVAC for the newly relocated

Cancer center .

CCHA has submitted a $223,567

grant to The Duke Endowment for

supporting a regional SANE

coordinator.

We have written a grant on behalf of

Dosher Memorial Hospital for

diabetes care/prevention in the

amount of $334,400.

Cape Fear Memorial Foundation Awards Mobile Sim Program Grant for New Van

A mainstay of the Mobile Simulation Program (MSP) has been collaboration with our member hospitals to better meet their educational needs. Now in its fifth year of operation, the

MSP is looking to be more versatile with

its training capabilities.

Many training evaluations over the years have noted how simulation scenarios inside the hospital rather than onboard our MSP truck can provide better learning opportunities. Training inside the facility means learners are reacting to a scenario or code within a familiar environment, which enhances the level of realism. As a

result, we have begun giving hospitals the option to request training inside the

hospital.

Rather than bringing the large MSP truck on these “in-house” training weeks, we needed a smaller, less costly mode of transportation for bringing along the

necessary equipment.

Thanks to funds from the Cape Fear Memorial Foundation we have been able to purchase a new cargo van. Using this van will drastically reduce transportation costs and add a new level of versatility to the program. We sincerely appreciate the generosity of the Cape Fear Memorial

Foundation for making this possible!

The new MSP Van will give training greater

versatility for meeting our hospitals’ needs.

Illucient Purchasing Alliance Signs Contract with

Guy Brown Products

This year we’ve seen remarkable growth within the Illucient Purchasing Alliance contract portfolio. A sizeable portion of these agreements are either reassigned from

the Southern Atlantic Healthcare Alliance (SAHA) or new to both of our

organizations.

Illucient recently signed an agreement with Guy Brown, which offers office toner and ink solutions. As with any contract in the portfolio, our member hospitals can now access these

services at a discounted rate.

Guy Brown delivers significant cost savings to hospitals with an average discount of 54% within the printer

supplies category (toner and ink). An innovative e-commerce platform allows customers to place orders

quickly and easily o n l i n e f o r national, next-day o r t w o - d a y

delivery.

Illucient’s hospital members wi l l

benefit from this new partnership, and we’re excited to add Guy Brown to our portfolio. We would also like to thank this business partner for sponsoring our Alliance Day 2015 event! We sincerely appreciate all of our business partners’ support, which

makes Alliance Day possible.
