Likes to: Doodle / draw / paint / write / trace /design / take photos / write down informationActivities: use Post-Its / use coloured pens / highlighters and unlined paper / use spider charts or mind maps / watch a video or demonstration / use a computer / make mental movies of important facts or visualise spelling in your heads / use drawings and visual aids
Likes: telling jokes / telling stories / creating music / debating / singing / discussingActivities: repeat everything / take part in class discussion / ask questions / record information and listen to it / have background music on while you study / discuss homework and projects with friends / make up songs, rhymes and raps to help you remember things / get someone to ask you questions if you are studying for a test / explain to others
Likes: Modelling / drama / making things / dance / sports Activities: demonstrations, role-play and learning activities / develop good note-taking skills/ write out the word to know if it feels right, when working on spellings / draw images, numbers and diagrams on paper that are connected with the learning / repeat answers when running/jogging / teach others
Anderson’s Revised Taxonomy
RememberingRetrieving, recognizing, and recalling relevant knowledge from long-term memory.
Verbs:Define, duplicate, list, name, recall, reproduce, tell, underlineProducts: Definitions, fact charts, lists, recitations, worksheets
List the different types of coastal erosion. Give a definition for each.
Make up a song, rhyme or rap to help an auditory learner remember the four processes of coastal erosion.
Record yourself using either a mobile phone, digital camera or video camera demonstrating the four process of coastal erosion using only your hands.
Understanding Constructing meaning from oral, written, and graphic messages through interpreting, exemplifying, classifying, summarising, inferring, comparing, and explaining.
Verbs:Calculate, describe, discuss, expand, explain, identify, locate, outline, report, restateProducts: Drawing, paraphrasing, peer teaching, show & tell, story problems, summary
Using annotated sketches explain the way different processes of coastal erosion create coastal landforms.
Give a presentation to explain how 2 coastal landforms (e.g. stack / wave cut platform / cave) are formed. You can use visual aides to do this. Ask them to then summarise what you have taught them (in written form) and provide you with feedback about your lesson.
Produce a series of models to explain the formation of a landform created by coastal erosion.
Applying Carrying out or using a procedure through executing, or implementing.
Verbs:Classify, demonstrate, dramatise, illustrate, practice, solve, use Products: Collection, interview, model building, presentation, role playing, scrap book, simulation
Demonstrate your understanding of coasts by creating a scrapbook about a coastal environment case study e.g. Sydney’s Northern BeachesICT: Use Scrapbook Flair (free software) to create your scrapbook
Make a podcast to demonstrate your understanding of coastal environments. You could use Audacity (free software) or Windows Sound Recorder to create your podcast. You can download a guide to using Audacity here.
Produce a mind map to demonstrate your understanding of coastal environments. Before starting your mindmap watch this video from Tony Buzan that explains how you should construct a mindmap http://tiny.cc/DdJbR
Analysing Breaking material into constituent parts, determining how the parts relate to one another and to an overall structure or purpose through differentiating, organising, and attributing.
Verbs:appraise, compare, contrast, differentiate, distinguish, examine, infer, outline, sequence, testProducts: Chart, plan, questionnaire, spreadsheet, summary, survey
Compare (say how things are similar) and contrast (say how things are different) two methods of managing coastal erosion. You should include annotated images in your assignment.
Produce a questionnaire to examine what 5 people you know understand about coastal environments. Present your results as a series of charts and summarise your findings.
Research information on the internet about different types of coastal protection. Copy and paste information into a word processor. Highlight key words and information. Then produce a mind map to compare the different types of protection.
Evaluating Making judgments based on criteria and standards through checking and critiquing.
Verbs:Appraise, defend, dispute, editorialise, judge, justify, prioritise, rate, select, support, verifyProducts: Critique, judgement, opinion, recommendation, report, self-evaluation
Watch this video showing various coastal erosion management techniques http://tiny.cc/3pzz9. Write a letter to justify the coastal protection scheme Dee Why to people living to the west of Dee Why.
Watch this video showing various coastal erosion management techniques http://tiny.cc/3pzz9. With a friend record a debate about the advantages and disadvantages of the scheme.
Watch this video showing various coastal erosion management techniques http://tiny.cc/3pzz9. Produce a play that evaluates the success of the scheme. You could do this with friends and record the play or present it to your class.
Creating Putting elements together to form a coherent or functional whole; reorganizing elements into a new pattern or structure through generating, planning, or producing.
Verbs:Change, combine, compose, create, formulate, hypothesis, improve, invent, predictProducts: New game,Puppet show, cartoon, book cover, multimedia, poem, skit
Watch this video showing the coastline on the Northern Beaches http://tiny.cc/gwwYj. Create a plan to protect this area. You can present you plan in a range of ways e.g. a multimedia presentation using PowerPoint /Impress (an open source Presentation software program free to download) or
Watch this video showing the coastline on the N Beaches http://tiny.cc/gwwYj. Formulate a plan to protect this area. Share the plan with a student then explain to them the advantages and disadvantages of your plan. Ask them to summarise
Watch this video showing the coastline on the Northern Beacheshttp://tiny.cc/gwwYj. Either create a model to show how the coast could be protected or invent a game that examines the people who will be affected by erosion in this area and examines possible solutions to erosion
