WORKSHOP INTRODUCTIONMany people think of “high-performance coaching” as coaching for high performers - in other words, people who have been identified as “star talent”. High-performance coaching, however, is about helping all people reach their full potential; in all areas of their lives. For the manager, this means working with people to improve their performance at work.

High-performance coaching may also involve collaborating with other managers and leaders in your organization to make the workplace a high-performance organisation; one that helps everybody to perform at their best. High-performance coaching conversations begin with finding out people’s “starting points” – where they are now and their visions or work ambitions. Then, it moves on to explore the directions in which people need to move to achieve those visions, and the steps they need to take to do so.

A coaching style of management is increasingly preferred to the “command and control” traditional approach. Instead of telling people what to do, there’s a shift to encouraging people and allowing them to think for themselves and come up with their own solutions. Rather than interjecting and solving the issues, a coaching manager would provide support, feedback and guidance. Managers can also use this skill during team meetings to enable the team to take responsibility for their activities. One to one meetings can also be used as coaching sessions if the manager uses a supportive, challenging and developmental approach.

Coaching embraces 2 fundamental principles, that of awareness and responsibility. Awareness can be raised by focussed attention and by practice. It is much more than seeing and hearing. It is the clear perception of the relevant facts and information. It is an understanding of systems, dynamics and of relationships between things and people. It also helps in recognising when and how emotions or desires distort our own perception. When we accept, choose or take responsibility for our own thoughts and actions, our levels of commitment increase, and so does our performance.

This workshop aims to guide managers and leaders to develop their people and coaching skills and apply them to their roles in their company. The ultimate purpose of learning these skills must be to enhance understanding of how to motivate people to a higher level of purpose and performance.

By the end of the workshop participants will be able to: • Build rapport with people to win their trust and earn their respect • Master the techniques of enhanced communication, powerful questioning and

engaged listening• Understand the importance of a clear agreement on the nature of the coaching

relationship, the respective responsibilities and the desired outcome • Become familiar with how to structure a coaching session and the benefits a

structured process brings• Build their own confidence in initiating and owning a coaching session and experience

a coaching session both as a coach and as a coachee • Agree the coaching ‘contract’

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW AND OBJECTIVESThis highly interactive and practical two-day course will enable you to understand and develop your primary communication, leadership, management and behavioural style to enable you to motivate and inspire confidently and professionally. You will build a toolkit that will enable you to recognise other people’s primary motivations and preferred style of communication. As a result, you will learn how to adjust your style to move issues and situations forward without pushing, forcing or telling others what to do.

During this experiential workshop participants will learn: • About themselves and how we, as humans, are motivated and communicate in various

different ways • Values, beliefs, perceptions, attitudes, behaviours, world-views and mind-sets • How to build rapport, and how to reframe • To view the world through multiple lenses and gain multiple perspectives. • How to set SMART goals; • Facilitate, coach, communicate vision, and gain commitment of individuals and teams. • Successfully lead and coach people in a continuously changing and turbulent

environment • Understand what High Performance Coaching is (and what it is not). • Identify the qualities of an effective Leader Coach. • Recognise ‘limiting beliefs’ – those beliefs that may be holding people back • Recognize their unique strengths as a coach and how these can be effectively used in

their coaching role. • Develop coaching partnerships with those they manage and lead. • Participate in the personal growth of others while developing high performance coaching

skills. • Achieve significant business results by coaching in areas that can provide the most

impact and leverage for the organisation. • Challenge others to hold themselves accountable for results.
