Wordpress for Pearson’s PUBH students – the Guide #1 – Take a look at the screen captures below. They WILL help. #2 – CALL me at 509-963-2493 the minute you’re a little lost. Do NOT wait, simply hoping I’ll read your mind and pick up the phone to call YOU. I haven’t mastered that skill yet. BUT – PLEASE do NOT decide you are lost until after you read every word of this 3-page document. Reading in courses is YOUR responsibility, even to learn about a course, and it will help you learn. #3 – Take a deep breath the minute BEFORE you call me. That will help us both out. Trust me. If I don’t answer, leave a message. Chances are I WILL answer within 24 hours. Meanwhile, go eat something you enjoy, take a walk or lie down for a bit, watch this 1-minute talking dog video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGeKSiCQkPw , or phone a friend. #4 – Visit here, https://en.support.wordpress.com/ , if you can’t reach me and the talking dog video or other suggestions do not take away the stress. Click the Get Help button about halfway down the screen. These people are seriously terrific, will answer within seconds, and will text chat with you until they get your questions answered. OK, the screen captures... This is pretty much what you’ll see the first time you visit the course blog:

Wordpress for Pearson’s PUBH students – the Guide#1 – Take a look at the screen captures below.

Meanwhile, go eat something you enjoy, take a walk or lie down for a bit, watch this 1-minute talking dog video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGeKSiCQkPw, or phone a friend.

#4 – Visit here, https://en.support.wordpress.com/, if you can’t reach me and the talking dog video or other suggestions do not take away the stress. Click the Get Help button about halfway down the screen. These people are seriously terrific, will answer within seconds, and will text chat with you until they get your questions answered.

OK, the screen captures...

This is pretty much what you’ll see the first time you visit the course blog:

Below is what you’ll see at wordpress.com, when you go to set up your account as asked in the emailed invitation! Please note that you have to ACCEPT THE INVITATION...

When you get here, look for something that asks you to set up a username and a password. Click it. WRITE DOWN the username and password you set up!

Stressed? See Quick Tip #2 above!

Try logging in (or signing in) for the first time. To do that, look for a button that says “Log In” or “Sign In” and click it.

Make sure you’re in consuminghealthmatters.wordpress.com and NOT in your own blog! If you get lost right now, call me right now – at 509-963-2493.

Now you’ll want to write your first post. To do so you’ll need to be in your Dashboard. To get there, click the My Sites button – you should see it at the top left if you’re in wordpress.com – and then click WP Admin (shows up right above the bright aqua bar in the image below).

Once you’re in your Dashboard, look down to the left and you’ll see “Posts” (below “Store” and above “Media”). Hovering will show you Add New.

Click there.

On the next page, you’ll see two ways your “Add new” spot might look: Depending on your computer, you may see one or the other.

The “old” posting experience

The “new” posting experience

Both allow you to add a title, blah blah blah in the box, and add tags and categories – which is CRITICAL if you want me to GRADE what you write! Both also have a Publish button. Hit it and see what happens.

Now back to the boring stuff… Hit the syllabus to finish getting the basic gist, then the “Note,” and you’ll be getting fairly well acquainted with my approach.
