Inspiring young film makers

45thANNIVERSARY

Page 2: Co-operative Film Festival Event Guide and Program

The Co-operative Film Festival has been helping young people develop their creative side, work together co-operatively and express themselves since 1966. This means we’ve been committed to inspiring young people through filmmaking for a whopping 45 years, making our festival one of the oldest in the UK!

We’re passionate about supporting the positive contribution that children and young people can make to their local communities and believe that the art of filmmaking can encourage them to become active citizens, involved in what’s going on in the world around them.

Ever since the Festival’s birth The Co-operative has given hundreds of young people the exciting opportunity to see their work on the big screen in front of a live audience every year. It’s an inspiring and unique experience that we know can stimulate a successful career in the film and media industry from an early age.

Come along and watch a diverse range of fun, inspirational and thought-provoking films from animation, drama, documentary and more, all made by people age 19 and under. Whether you’re a budding filmmaker, a film enthusiast or a proud parent or teacher, there’s something for everyone at The Co-operative Film Festival!

The National Media Museum is a fantastic place for young people to learn about, engage with and create media. It’s a huge venue with eight floors of amazing galleries with an extensive collection of film and television memorabilia for you to explore. There are also three cinema screens, including the UK’s first ever IMAX which has a screen the height of four double-decker buses! When you’re planning your trip to the Festival make sure you leave enough time to have a good look round as there’ll be a lot going on.

The museum is located in Bradford city centre, in the county of West Yorkshire in the United Kingdom.

Film Screenings

The film screenings are at the heart of the festival so don’t miss out! This year we’ll be proudly presenting nearly one hundred films, each less than six minutes long and created by budding young filmmakers all under the age of nineteen. We’re sure you’ll enjoy their work and be inspired by their ideas, so be sure to book yourself a place in the cinema!

Workshops, Talks and Drop-in Events

A fantastic programme of exciting activities will run alongside the screenings this year. From screenwriting, acting and animation to special effects and filming in 3D, we’re sure there’ll be something that takes everyone’s fancy!

Advisor Feedback Sessions

Don’t miss the opportunity to talk to one of our expert Festival Advisors. They can give you friendly one-to-one feedback on your film and answer your questions about the film and media industry. Don’t forget to bring a copy of your film! See page five for booking information.

This year we received some truly fantastic entries. We thoroughly enjoyed watching every film that was sent in but there were a handful we thought really stood out as examples for other young filmmakers to aspire towards. Our Festival Advisors chose nine different categories of films meaning there’ll be at least one in every screening, so look out for the following titles:

Lifeguard (Advisors’ Choice for Comedy Performance)

Red and the Wolf (Advisors’ Choice for Animation)

Mute (Advisors’ Choice for Cinematography)

These Scars (Advisors’ Choice for Experimental Filmmaking)

And the World Smiles Back (Advisors’ Choice for Docudrama)

Witness (Advisors’ Choice for Emerging Talent)

Katy & I (Advisors’ Choice for Documentary Filmmaking)

Immersed (Advisors’ Choice for Skilled Editing)

We Are Rockstars (Advisors’ Choice for Music Video)

We hope you’ll enjoy watching these films as much as we did!
