CNA Skills Test

Cleaning equipment is an integral part of your CNA skills test. It may not be a different question of the test, but is incorporated in any skill that you are asked to demonstrate. This presentation points out some basic steps which should be followed depending on the medical equipment used.

Wear your gown and cover your mouth and nose with a protective mask.

Take a wire mesh basket and fix it inside a tidy bucket. Now fill some water in the bucket, add some detergent in it and stir it well.

Put all the required instruments in the bucket and let it soak for at least five to eight minutes.

Now remove the basket full of instruments from the bucket. Remove all the instruments from it and put them down on a table or a tray

Now segregate the instruments, as the ones that require disassembling and the ones that do not require disassembling

Remove all the parts of the equipment that require disassembling. Now wash all the equipment with detergent, water and a fleecy brush. Scrub them well so that all the dirt is removed properly. Scrub along the curves, joints, teeth, inside, outside, edges of the equipment and in all possible ways so that no dirt is left on the instruments.

Now wash them under running water so that all the scrubbed dirt gets washed away along with the force of water. See to it that even the detergent is removed properly.

Now once again put the equipment on a table or a tray and let it dry for some time. If you are planning to use any disinfectant, then you should wipe the instruments with a clean towel so that it dries up. However, if you are planning to boil them then you may leave it wet.

These are the essential steps that should be carried out so that you pass the skills test, if this experiment is asked in the exam.
