The event, which was held at Golden West Centennial Lodge, was put on by her son Don McDonald and daughter-in-law Cheryl Penny. Several family members were in attendance including Alma’s brother who made a special trip from Edmonton to be with Alma on this special occasion. Alma was born near Onoway, AB, marrying shortly after the war. They lived in the Fort Rouge area of Winnipeg where she loved to garden and was an exceptional cook and baker. Alma has 3 grandchildren - Ben, Chris and Karen and one great grandson - Kyran. On June 20th, Linda Schram attended a celebration of Nell Macauley’s 100th birthday and presented her with a special plaque from CN on behalf of the CN Pensioners’ Association. The event which was put on by her son Bill and daughter-in-law Karen, was held at the Waverley where Nell resides. Many family and friends were in attendance. Nell enjoys spending time with her family which includes her son, daughter-in-law, 2 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She also enjoys reading and being involved with her neighbours at the Waverley. On September 12, 2016, Jack Moore attended a 100th birthday celebration for Nellie Serofin and had the honor of presenting Nellie with a special plaque from CN on behalf of the CN Pensioners’ Association of Manitoba. The event was put on by her family and was held at Park Manor Care in Transcona, where Nellie resides. The event was attended by many of her family and friends including residents of Park Manor. Nellie was born in Moosehorn Manitoba and married Mike in 1935. Nellie enjoys watching curling, bowling and football and has many curling and bowling trophies herself. Nellie was quite the sewer and dressmaker. On behalf of all members of the CN Pensioners’ Association of Manitoba, we wish them all a very Happy Birthday! Fall 2016

On July 21st, Janet Anderson attended an event in celebration of Alma McDonald’s 100th birthday and presented her with a special plaque

from CN on behalf of the CN Pensioners’ Association. The event, which was held at Golden West Centennial Lodge, was put on by her son Don McDonald and daughter-in-law Cheryl Penny. Our meetings are held the first Wednesday of the month at the Norwood Legion on Marion Street and commence at 1:30 p.m. Many arrive earlier to have coffee, donuts and a visit. Annual Picnic: The annual picnic was held on

Thursday, June 16th at Assiniboine Park. Over 70 people enjoyed a day of great weather, good food, meeting new friends and renewing old acquaintances. A special thanks goes to Linda Schram for organizing this event and to all the people who gave their time to help serve food. There were 24 - 2 person teams entered in the Bocce tournament. The winners of the Bocce tournament were: 1st Place - Jack and Bev Moore (center) 2nd Place - George Lintick and Rose Chapman (left) 3rd Place - Terry Gysel and Joanne Gaborieau (right) More pictures on page 8.

CN Pensioners’ Association Bowling League: CNPA Mixed 5 pin bowling league meets every Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Billy Mosienko Lanes. New bowlers are needed for the start-up in September 2016. Annual Christmas Luncheon: will be

held at the Masonic Hall at Corydon and Osborne on

Wednesday, November 30th, 2016. Doors will open at 11:30 with luncheon served at 12:00. This is a sit down luncheon with wine at tables. There will be 50/50 draws and many door prizes. The cost is $20.00 per person. This luncheon is open to Pensioners and a guest. Tickets will be available at the October and November meetings. If you need more info please call Linda - 204-255-5636. Cutoff date for ticket sales is November 20th.

To those previously mentioned on our Sick List, we hope that you are feeling much better. To those who are currently ill or still experiencing health problems, please know you are in our thoughts. The membership joins us in extending Best Wishes for a speedy recovery. We have received reports and updates on the following Pensioners since the last newsletter: Sick List: John Almdal is in Grace Hospice. John Balak broke his arm. He is recuperating at home. Fern Milne is in Grace Hospice. She is not doing well. Walter Prokop recently moved to the Irene Baron Eden Centre. Ron Smith, of Winnipeg, is recuperating at home from a broken hip. He is undergoing weekly therapy at Riverview and is recovering slowly. John Wright’s wife Beverley is in River Park Gardens after having a stroke. Wayne Zaharia had bypass surgery July 5th. Everything went great. He is home and feels 100 percent.

Breanna Isabel Meek Rayna Hamilton Granddaughter of James Meek Granddaughter of Thomas Hamilton Breanna is studying at the University of Winnipeg Rayna is entering her 1st year of in Biology & Psychology. Her graduate studies study at the University of Manitoba will focus on Medical Microbiology. in Science, majoring in biotechnology. On behalf of all members of the CNPA of Manitoba, we congratulate you and wish you success in your studies.

Annual Golf Tournament:

The Annual Golf Tournament was held at Kingswood G&CC on Tuesday, June 28th, 2016. The weather could not have been any better for the 44 golfers that took part. After a round of golf, we were treated to a bbq steak dinner and everyone went home with a new golf shirt. Thanks to Ron Davis for organizing this tournament.
