Convocation is a day to cherish innovation, intelligence, undaunted leadership skills and memories of years of building bonds and discovering new depths. The 6th Annual Convocation was successfully held at Jain Univer- sity - Global Campus, Kanakapura Road on December 23, 2016. The event was addressed by the Vice Chancellor and declared open by The Chancellor. Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, MoS - HRD, Government of India was the chief guest for the day. The poignant picture of the graduate batch of 2016 clad in black gowns and caps was indeed a moment of pride for Jain University. On the 6th Annual Convocation of Jain University, degrees were awarded to the students by the Deans of Faculty for having successfully completed their respective courses. - Rajath K Rajeev and Ronit George Aji #Precipice2k17 Precipice 2k17 was inaugurated in Center for Management Studies, Jain University campus on December 22, 2016. So, it’s almost time to take over the world, as we know it! - Sreehari Valsan The team of CMS Weekly, wishes all a very warm-hearted wishes for Christmas, this year. CMS celebrated Christmas with grandeur. Decking up trees with bobbles, glittering pre- sents, topping it all up with a pentacle. Christmas is a great and joyous occasion celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, the Messiah. Born on 25th, in the month of December at a manger in Bethlehem, Christ had to sacrifice his very life, to wash away the sins of mankind. Hope, this Christmas comes as a lesson that it is with God, that we really find happiness.

    Evening of Bharatanatyam with Rukmini Vijayakumar

    Rukmini Vijayakumar presented aBharatanatyam Margam, this month atShoonya, at it’s creative space inLalbagh. A classical Margam is thetraditional Bharatanatyam sequence ofa choreography set to Carnatic music,following a progression of complexityin music, rhythm and expression.

    Trained under eminent gurus,Narmada Rao and Sundari Santhanam– Rukmini has carved a niche forherself in the performing arts world.After her initial years of ballet underYana Lewis, she graduated with honorsfrom the Boston Conservatory receiv-ing a BFA degree in contemporary arts.

    Her training in Karanas underSundari, in the tradition of GuruPadma Subrahmanyam, and her educa-tion in choreography at the conserva-tory, has given Rukmini a uniquechoreographic perspective that retainstradition while creating art that relatesto the modern times.

    She has been choreographingfor many years, now and herproductions 'Megham', 'Radha',

    'Rukmini', 'Nayani', 'Prabhavati'amongst others have toured around theworld. She performs extensively as asoloist and has been appreciated byaudiences all over world for heraesthetic sense and dynamism.For those who don't know Shoonya, it'sa space to learn, explore andexperience. A non-profit platform forart and somatic practices located in theheart of Bangalore. A light-filled spacesurrounded by palm trees, designed forpeople of different artistic disciplinesand somatic practices to create,connect and collaborate. So, the next time – you want to tuneyour moves on the dance floor,broaden your horizons, or escape them,through classes, workshops,performances, film screenings,discussion forums, hop off toShoonya; like we did.

    Mr. Kiriti Rambhatla, MediaOperations Head at Microsoft-LinkedIn had visited Center forManagement Studies, Jain Universityon December 17, 2016 to interact with

    UG and PG students of Journalism andMass Communication.

    A graphic novelist by interestand a well-informed economist keenlyinteracted with the students on seeingthe truth as it is. He talked about howmedia shapes opinions and howopinions forms leaders who in turnshape opinions of the general publicand how the authoritarian structure ofmedia conglomerations actuallyfunction. “It’s in the hands of the

    public to choose what's right for thembut they aren't choosing,” said Mr.Rambhatla.

    Students showed interest byasking him questions related to their

    interests as they were convinced by hisopinions on those topics.

    He also spoke about his recentgraphic novel, TASKARA. It wasadapted into a movie as well, earlierthis year - applauded for being India’sfirst neo-noir film based onanonymous hackings, playing aroundwith concepts of economics.Taskara isthe first book in a three-part series.

    VERVE is Up! - A CulturalExtravaganza at CMS.

    For the first time in JU-CMS history,an inter-class cultural fest is going tobe organized! And it’s time to#VerveItUp, a bit. As of now, the eventis scheduled to be conducted onJanuary 9, 2017 - wherein students ofBBA, BAJ and PG students will comeup, to compete against each other,because their class’s strengths aregoing to be questioned!

    The preliminary rounds forVerve 2017 will start on January 3,2017 and will go on till January 5th ofthe coming year. “It’s great pleasure forus to start off the year, with Verve. Thisfest is not just about classes competingagainst each other, it’s about findingout talents, hidden beneath theblanket,” said Sachit Sondhi,Committee Head for Verve 2017.

    There’s a whole new list ofevents this time - Dance/Musiccompetitions, and contests likePsychoDrama - a mono-act with dramaas the spine of the story, the candidatechooses. And there’s TrashOn - a junkart competition, which will teachstudents aesthetics along with theimportance of 4 Rs of Sustainability.So, let us see what talent resurfaces,with the coming year of 2017!

    The CMS Cup 2017, is going to beheld soon, and the pent up energy isalready showing out. There’s been along history of friendly intra-collegerivalry and sportsmanship whichmakes for a great atmosphere at theJU-CMS campus.

    The events will start fromJanuary 4, 2017 till January 25, 2017.Individual events and team events arebubbling up with registrations; themost exciting part being, chances toscore extra points when teachers ofrespective class competes with theother class faculties.

    A Facebook page and aSnapchat handle has been dedicted forCMS Cup entirely for students toenquire about further updates,regularly.

    An intra-college fitness competitionwas held recently, in the JU-CMScampus, in association with MyCountry Run, on December 20, 2016.The canteen grounds saw a huge crowdgathered around, to cheer up the fittestof the lot.

    Around 25 - 30 studentsparticipated in the competitions, toshow their might. And the competi-tions ranged from Frog Race, DuckWalks, Planks, Skipping to ArmWrestling amd PushUps.
