Course Purpose: Writing 3 helps students develop their writing skills from paragraph to several essay types (description, classification, process, comparison/contrast). The course emphasizes writing from sources other than individual personal experience. Students will also learn rhetorical organization of the academic essay and learn to write as a process.

Course Objectives: 1. Identify conventions in academic writing.2. Write several types of academic essays.3. Practice rhetorical organization of the paragraph and academic essay.4. Write essays, summarize information, and paraphrase correctly.5. Practice writing as a process.6. Writing from sources (textbook, news, popular genres, discussions, internet)7. Learn forms and functions of grammatical features appropriate to writing tasks.8. Use technology relevant to course goals.

Grading Scale used for final grade:

93%-100%=A 87%-83%=B 77%-73%=C92%-90%=A- 82%-80%=B- 72%-70%=C-89%-88%=B+ 79%-78%=C+ Anything below C- is not passing
