The Escher String Quartet has received acclaim for its profoundmusical insight and rare tonal beauty. Championed by theEmerson String Quartet, the group was a BBC New GenerationArtist award winner from 2010–2012, giving debuts at bothWigmore Hall and BBC Proms at Cadogan Hall. In its hometownof New York, the ensemble serves as Artists of The ChamberMusic Society of Lincoln Center, and in 2013, the quartet becameone of very few chamber ensembles to be awarded theprestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant. The Escher Quartet takesits name from Dutch graphic artist M.C. Escher, inspired byEscher’s method of interplay between individual componentsworking together to form a whole.

The Academy of St Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble wascreated in 1967 to perform the larger chamber works—fromquintets to octets—with players who customarily work togetherinstead of the usual string quartet with additional guests. Drawnfrom the principal players of the orchestra, the ChamberEnsemble is performing this season with strings and winds. Itstouring commitments are extensive, with regular visits to France,Germany and Spain and frequent tours to North and SouthAmerica, Australia and New Zealand.

The Aeolus Quartet is committed to presenting time-seasonedmasterworks and new cutting-edge works to widely diverseaudiences with equal freshness, dedication, and fervor. Thequartet formed in 2008 at the Cleveland Institute of Music, andis named for the Greek god Aeolus, who governed the fourwinds. Since its inception, the all-Americangroup has been awarded prizes at nearlyevery major competition in the United Statesand has performed across the globe.

After only two short years of working together, the MorgensternTrio emerged on the German music scene by being awarded topprizes and awards, such as the prestigious US Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio Award in 2010. Matt Haimovitz made his debut at the age of 13 as a soloist withZubin Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic. By age 17, he made his firstrecording for Deutsche Grammophon with James Levine and theChicago Symphony Orchestra. He has re-defined what it means tobe a classical musician today, bringing concerts of Bach, Golijov, Glass,Carter and others to clubs and coffee houses across the country whilemaintaining a busy schedule of international appearances.

Christopher O’Riley is recognized as one of the leading Americanpianists of his generation, touring extensively as a recitalist andchamber musician and appearing with every major orchestra. Hehosts the popular NPR music program, From the Top, and hasreleased a set of highly regarded recordings of the music ofRadiohead, Nick Drake, and others. Mr. O’Riley studied withRussell Sherman at the New England Conservatory of Music.

Community OutreachCMC is committed to bringing world-class chamber musicto a diverse audience. We make a special effort to reachpeople who find it difficult to afford concerts by providing$5 tickets to full-time students and Oregon Trail Cardholders, as well as free outreach programs for SouthernOregon University students and faculty, Rogue Valleyschools, the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon, theOsher Lifelong Learning Institute, and retirementcommunities. Through the Teacher & Student Circleprogram, underwritten by Alexis Packer – Attorney at Law,CMC offers complimentary seats to our matinee concertsfor Rogue Valley music teachers and their music students.We also offer a special $20 ticket for matinees to ourpatrons ages 19–35.

Scholarship FundIn 2006 CMC establisheda Scholarship Fund tobenefit talented SOUmusic majors. The fundprovides scholarships ofup to $20,000 over fouryears to selected music majors chosen by the SOU musicfaculty. There have been a total of twelve winners since theprogram’s inception. Pre-concert LecturesCMC offers informative, entertaining pre-concert lectures onehour before every performance (evenings and matinees).These free lectures are presented by musicologist Ed Wight,and are designed to give you insights on the composers andrepertoire featured in each concert. The lectures are held inthe Choir Room on the second floor of the Music Building.Elevator access is available.
