ApproachConsiderationsThediagnosisofclusterheadache(CH)isbasedonhistoricalandphysicalfindings.Ahistoryofattacksthatoccurwiththecharacteristicperiodicityandrhythmicityisthekeytothediagnosis.Laboratorystudiesarenotofparticularvalueinthisregard.

Imagingstudies,thoughnotdiagnostic,areusefulforexcludingotherpotentialcausesofheadacheinselectedpatients.Neuroimagingwithassessmentoftheintracranialandcervicalvasculatureandthesellarandparanasalregionisrecommendedinallpatientswithatypicalpresentationsoftrigeminalautonomicheadaches.
