CLUBS & SOCIETIES AT SUBU IS ABOUT GETTING YOU ALL TOGETHER AND GETTING YOU INVOLVED IN WHAT YOU LOVE!With over 3000 students involved last year and more than 100 SUBU Clubs and Societies for you to get involved in, you’re certain to find the one to suit you.

The idea of Clubs and Societies is for students to realise their potential, and we’re here to help facilitate that. Clubs and Societies aim to bring together people with similar interests, helping you to make friends, improve your CV, and it’s so easy to join. Just visit our website or come see us at the SUBU Talbot Campus office.

Don’t miss BUnique week either, our celebration of all the great work our Clubs and Societies do. It’s loads of fun, with everything from cheerleading performances to gaming marathons and even parachute packing demonstrations!

It’s really easy to set up your own Club or Society, so don’t worry if there’s nothing that grabs you. All it takes is you and four mates, so come and see us and we’ll get you started.

Advertising Society

Live briefs, guest speakers, trips to agencies and amazing social evenings - share your love for advertising whether you study it or not!

African Caribbean Society

This group aims to provide a united family of African and Caribbean Bournemouth University Students. We can’t wait to see you!

Alternative Performance Society

Dedicated to writing, producing and performing original work for theatre and radio. From variety, to sketch shows, to improvisation.

American Football Club

The team are looking for keen players so whether you’ve played the sport before or are completely new to it come, give it a go and have fun!

Amnesty International Society

The Bournemouth University Branch of Amnesty International. If you are interested in the charities work then come along!

Anime Society

All are welcome to come along for socialising and watching of Anime! A great way to meet new friends and meet regularly to watch new and classic Anime.

Anthropology Society

For anybody interested in the science of humans and how they work, looking at human experience, origins, social and cultural development.

Archaeology Society

Loads of great events to help promote further understanding of archaeology. Guest lectures, nights out and trips to prominent local sites.

Assassins Guild Society

A huge game of mock assassination. Track down and eliminate players in a variety of harmless ways, but don’t get assassinated yourself!

Athletics Club

Everybody’s welcome here, and there’s no trials! Offering a full track and field programme with fully qualified coaches for every event.

Baking Society

For anyone with a love of baking or a desire to improve their skills! Different tasty treats and the ‘Star Baker’ competition every week.

Ballroom and Latin Dance Society

Have fun while learning to dance! Professional coaches teach weekly lessons whether you want to compete for the uni or just learn casually.

Boat Club

Open to anyone, rowing is an exciting, competitive sport and a great way to keep fit. There’s an amazing social side to the society to!

Boxing Club

Meet new people and enjoy a shared appreciation of boxing with this society. Don’t miss the social events and chances to go and see local fights.

Breakdance Society

Everybody is welcome, regardless of your experience. Come and train, meet new people and most importantly, have fun!

BU Girl Guides and Scouts

BU’s link to the world of Guiding and Scouting. Open to anyone, there’s a range of activities from beach walks to swimming and archery!

Bulgarian Society

A place for Bulgarian students at BU and those interested in Bulgarian culture to meet like-minded people and get together regularly.

Business Mania Society

BU’s business hub for anyone with an interest in business. Expect events, guest speakers and opportunities to meet like-minded people.

BUtiful Film Festival Society

Gain valuable experience working towards the BUtiful international Film Festival. Get involved with submissions, promotion and admin.

Cheerleading Society (BU Falcons)

BU Falcons compete in National University Competitions and represents our sports teams at matches. We look forward to seeing you at tryouts!

Chinese Student and Scholars Association

Organising cultural events like Chinese New Year and providing a place for Chinese Students and others to make friends and have fun.

Desi Network Association

Putting on amazing Diwali events and promoting cultural diversity in Bournemouth University, join us, have fun and make some new friends.

DJ and Producers Society

Showcasing fresh new talent, come and discuss mixing, producing and partying! Not just for DJs and producers come and experience the beats!

Drawing and International Art Society

Offering the opportunity for students of all abilities to come and learn traditional and international fine art drawing skills.

Duke of Edinburgh Society

This society strives to make the Duke of Edinburgh award available to every student at Bournemouth University.

Christian Union Society

A group passionate about Jesus and passionate about students. Serving both at university with various events and building great friendships.

Climbing Club

Offering something for climbers of all abilities, both indoors and outdoors. There’s something for everyone, from seasoned pros to beginners.

Comic Book Society

For lovers of all things comic book. This society can help you find comics you are looking for and is a great place to meet new friends and discus new comics.

Cycling Society

Bournemouth and Poole have some amazing cycle routes and BU is well geared up for cyclists, so join up and start exploring with us!

Dance Society

Keep fit and make friends, whatever your experience. Practicing all styles, expect fitness, choreography, performance and great socials!

Debating Society

Take the opportunity to get involved in public speaking and debating, or just join the audience and learn about the topics being discussed.

Bringing together people from different European cultures to meet each other and share their cultures at regular events and social gatherings.

Events Society

Bringing all those interested in the events industry together to network and learn through speakers, trips, training and social occasions.

Feminist Society

BU’s Feminist Society is for everyone who believes in gender equality. Join us for discussions, campaigns, film nights and marches.

Forensic Society

We offer everyone with an interest in forensics the opportunity to come and make new friends, practice and refine their skills.

Free Fall Club

Offering the chance for anyone who wants to learn to skydive to experience the thrill of a lifetime, from total beginners to seasoned pros!

Gamers Society

A society for lovers of games of all kinds, from consoles to board games role playing games like D&D, to trading cards and figuring games.

Geography Society

Open to anyone with an interest in the natural world. There will be field trips, both local and abroad, to broaden your knowledge.

Girl Science Society

This society has been formed with the key aim of getting girls both interested in, and involved in science.

Horse Riding Society

Offering those of all abilities the chance to learn or improve their horse riding. All members even get discount at a local riding school.

Humanists & Atheists Society

This aims to be a group who love to discover, explore and experience the world through a range of diverse events and activities.

Islamic Society

Aims to create a unified community catering to all the needs of Muslim students while encouraging learning about Islam in the wider community.

IT Ambassadors Society

BU’s very own IT Crowd allows students to gain valuable experience by working with IT professionals, be it IT, AV or technology in general.

Japanese (Nihongo) Society

Love Japan or planning a trip? Learn the language and how to behave in Japanese culture through a training course with an experienced tutor.

Jewish Society

Providing events so the Jewish student community can celebrate festivals together and inviting any student wishing to learn about Judaism.

Juggle Society

Join up to make new friends, have fun and practice your skills ready to perform at events in the university and community.

Karate Club

Part of the Satori Martial Arts Club. Come and train in technique, pad-work, forms and self defence, and meet fellow enthusiasts.

Kayak and Canoe Club

Providing opportunities for any BU student to develop an interest in this fast paced sport. All abilities welcome with fully trained instructors!

Kazakh Society

This society welcomes everybody and aims to unite them in a celebrations of Kazakh culture and customs. Come and join in!

Law Society

Events and activities to promote an interest in the law and legal sector. Events will include guest speakers and trips to parliament.

LGBT Society

Providing a great atmosphere for students, whether they identify as LGBT or not and offering sources for advice, social events and support.

Live Sound Society

A society for all those interested in live music, Bournemouth has some amazing venues so make the most of them with the Live Sound Society.

Magic: The Gathering Society

Part of the Paradox Comic Shop’s Friday Night Magic events, held at Talbot Campus every week.

Marine Archaeological, Ecology & Recreational Diving Society

All abilities are welcome so come and learn to dive as a beginner, improve your skills and even take the opportunity to gain qualifications.

Marketing Society

An academic society for both those studying the marketing course and those with an interest in the area. Meet like-minded people and learn!

Marrow Society

Bournemouth University’s student run branch of the Anthony Nolan Trust. Running clinics to sign people on the bone marrow donation register.

Mature Students Society

Get to know other mature students on courses here at BU and socialise and support each other with the help of your dedicated exec officer.

Nepalese Society

A place for Nepalese students at BU to meet each other and socialise and a chance for those with an interest in the culture to learn all about it.

Nordic Society

Bringing together those from Nordic countries with those interested in taking part in activities related to Nordic culture together.

Oriental Culture Educational Society

Open to everyone, this society supports broader cross-cultural learning and provides exhibitions, talks and organises multicultural events.

Occupational Therapy Society

Improving awareness of the profession and its ethos by offering peer support to students and an opportunity to learn about the industry.

Paramedic Society

An academic group for those on the Paramedic Science course to meet with each other, study, improve and socialise.

Join up and become PARTS’ next star of the stage! The society is always looking for new recruits for its performances and social events.

Photography Society

With a specific responsibility to represent photographers and act as meeting point for anyone interested, people of all abilities can join.

POD (Peace One Day) Society

Actively seeking and endorsing Peace One Day through a student movement. If you want to take part in POD events through dance, art, sport and music then join POD@BU

Poker Society

A group for those interested in playing a friendly game of poker on a regular basis - playing for the fun of the game and set prizes, not cash!

Politics Society

An academic society for both those studying the Politics course and those with an interest in debating the political landscape.

Postgrad Taught Society

Get to know other students on Postgrad taught courses here at BU and socialise and support each other with the help of your dedicated exec officer.

PR & COMMS Society

An academic group for those on the PR and Communications courses to meet with each other, study, improve and socialise.

Psychology Society

Join up to meet like-minded people, see guest speakers and help to actively campaign against mental health discrimination and fundraise.

Student Representative Society

Provides an environment where students are encouraged to interact with elected representatives, helping to make a difference to life at BU.

Sailing Club

Something for everyone, from beginners training, to social sailing and yachting trips, and meet new people with an awesome social scene!

Shooting Club

Come and try something new with clay pigeon shooting. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just want a first go, come, get involved and have fun.

Slippers & Cigars Society

A very friendly group who just enjoy drinking the Earth’s fine elixirs, good intellectual conversation, debating, having fun and meeting new people.
