PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hi Fellow Members,

PRELIMINARY DISCUSSIONS JUST

COMMENCE CONCERNING OUR

CLUB’S POSSIBLE RE-LOCATION

I have some important news that I felt I needed to

let you know about. This news is that, once again,

we have been approached by Peninsula Health (our

fenceline neighbours) – who wish to expand their

facilities.

As a result of this approach, the Frankston City

Council, Peninsula Health and ourselves will be

having further discussions over the coming period

to see if there are suitable options available to us.

I have attached a Statement to Members which I

hope explains in a bit more detail where we are at

the moment.

You will probably begin to see some local

newspaper reporting of these developments, so I

just wanted to reassure all our Club Members that

unless a suitable site for the future home of the

Club is found, we will not be moving. The Club

has just exercised its option to extend our current

lease with the Frankston City Council until 30

November 2022.

But if you do have any queries or concern, please

feel free to give me a call on 9783 7933. I will be

more than happy to have a chat to you about it.

So, back to the normal day-to day activities of our

wonderful club. And where has this year gone!!.

And, of course with all our tennis competitions in

progress – Seniors, Juniors, Night Tennis, Peninsula

Mens +55 and the Mid-Week Ladies, the weeks

have just passed by very quickly. The Mid-Week

Ladies have just had their Finals and they are

looking forward to next season. (more information

in Carol’s MWL Report).

But before I go too much further, Congratulations

to our Club Secretary Anne Baldwin on winning the

Volunteer Achievement Award for the Newcombe

Medal Australian Tennis Awards 2012 held last

December. A great achievement Anne, and from

all the Committee and Members of the Frankston

Tennis Club, we congratulate you. Also, Anne was

a Finalist again in this year’s Tennis Victoria Awards

Night in the Volunteer Achievement category.

2012/2013 MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL : IMPROVEMENTS

CHANGE TO MEMBERSHIP INVOICING : As you

have been previously advised, In the interests of

simplifying our current Membership renewal

system, the Committee have determined to revert

back to ONE COMMON MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL

date eg 31 AUGUST 2013. As we are now rapidly

approaching that time of the year, our wonderful

Treasurer will be sending out shortly your

2013/2014 Year MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS.

We trust that this new system will streamline our

current membership procedures ad make the

Renewal process much more user friendly/

So, if you do have any queries regarding your

upcoming Membership Renewal, please do not

hesitate to contact either our Treasurer Con

Markopoulos, Club President Dawn McCormack or

Secretary Anne Baldwin.

And in case you do not receive a Renewal ; we have

an incorrect mailing or email address for you. So, if

you have not received an Renewal Invoice by

around mid-August, please contact our Treasurer so

we can update your contact details without delay.

And for those Members who have joined the Club in

the last few months, such as the beginning of the

current Winter 2013 PTA competition season, you

will have noticed that you would have received a

smaller “pro-rata” invoice. This was done to bring

you up to the “common” Membership Renewal

Date at August end.

Also, in accordance with Tennis Victoria compulsory

Player Registration fee, the CLUB can only allow

FINANCIAL MEMBERS of the club to PLAY ON OUR

COURTS and be eligible to play in any of our

COMPETITION TEAMS.

NEW COMMUNICATION EFFICIENCIES :

With our NEW-LOOK WEBSITE, we are still trying

to make sure that we have as many of Members

mobile numbers. In this current day of direct

SMS communications and the world of Facebook –

we often need an immediate and direct contract

point for our members. This is particularly

important when notifying our Club Members of a

WASH OUT or a CHANGE OF VENUE of similar last

minute change or important team notification.

So, could you please send a SIMPLE two (2) line

email containing the following :

• SMS (mobile) contact

• EMAIL address

through to :

[email protected]

And for Family Memberships, could you please

advise us of the best contact point for you.

THANKS VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP – and we do

LOOK FORWARD to RECEIVING YOUR EMAIL !!!!

JUNIOR REPORT : Winter 2013

Dear Frankston Tennis Club members and

friends - I hope that you are enjoying the

exciting fortnight of Wimbledon and Term 2

school holidays!

But first – just to celebrate the success of our

Les Moss Shield winning Team capping off a

great season with a great victory winning the

PTA’s highest level of competition in the

Summer 2012/2013 season. (Congrats to Rick

& William - pictured below).

We are now just over halfway through our

Winter 2013 season of PTA Saturday morning

competition and I would like to congratulate

our junior players and their families for braving

many cold mornings to play their matches and

support our teams. Despite fewer teams this

season and some very tough competition, our 3

girls’ teams and 5 boys’ teams are representing

us well and it is great to see everyone enjoying

their tennis. We are also pleased to welcome a

few juniors to our Saturday afternoon senior

competition too!

Our very excited Girls Section 4 WINNING

TEAM after their 2012/2013 Summer GRAND

FINAL VICTORY – well done Girls !!

Thank you to our junior players who have

helped out as emergencies (both in junior and

senior competition!) to enable our club to field

full teams each week.

We always try to register adequate numbers of

players in each team to allow for occasional

absences or injuries. However, please note that

‘rostered off’ and emergency list players will be

contacted if necessary, and your support is

appreciated.

I would also like to express gratitude to our

little team of parents and our wonderful Club

President who assist as Venue Supervisors each

Saturday. The Supervisors provide a friendly

welcome to our club and ensure that the

matches flow smoothly. The role is not difficult

and we encourage more parents to join us in

this fun role!

What a wonderful atmosphere at our club on

the evening of our Pizza and Footy Night

recently! The vibe was fantastic and our courts

were overflowing with kids and adults enjoying

tennis under lights before coming upstairs to

the Ron Carter Room for pizza and footy

viewing! If you missed the evening, we hope to

see you at our next Pizza and Footy Night on

Saturday 10th August for more fun and

laughter!

These social gatherings are a great way to get

to know your fellow club members and families

and we hope to see you there.

On a final note, congratulations to our juniors

who have been busy representing our

Peninsula Tennis Association in inter-regional

competition and doing us proud! Good luck to

those juniors who are playing in tournaments

over the school holidays too.

Don’t forget that our next junior tournament at

Frankston Tennis Club will be during the

September school holidays and we would love

many of our juniors and their families to

support our club on court or in the kitchen

during the tournament.

Have a relaxing winter break and see you back

on court on Saturday 20th July!

Kind regards,

Therese Sakamoto

Junior Coordinator

And a huge congratulations to our 4 club Members

(above), who recently represented the PTA at

Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club - and were 75% of the

PTA team. And our very own Chris Mackenzie was

there ...just to keep them all smiling. Great effort.
