Volume 1, Issue 1 February 2012 Club Treasurer 101 Key Club International Through this brief document I hope to answer the different questions I have received about my job duties, and also introduce the awesome position to y’all! First of all, hello my amazing Key Clubbers! For those of you who don’t me, my name is Jennifer Kay Tuggle Hinze and I am your current treasurer. Because I’m on medical leave, I couldn’t talk to you guys ARE YOU KEMPNER HIGHS NEXT CLUB TREASURER??? personally at the meeting. Thus, I just wanted to take a few minutes out of my day to explain to you what this position is and how it’s changed my life! In this document, I hope to provide you not only with what responsibilities this position entails, but also how EPIC the experience truly is. Key Club is an AMAZING organization. Last year during club elections, I was like many of y’all. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Nevertheless, running for club treasurer for the 2011-2012 school year was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I promise you that you won’t regret it. So go ahead, read more about this awesome position! :) WHAT IS A TREASURER, ANYWAY? Aye mate s ! Unfortunate ly, I must inform you that this club position does not include pirates and the quest for the missing “treasure”. (Corny…sorry y’all: P) All jokes aside, the treasurer very important because he/she is in charge of handling all financial affairs. During the summer, you will attend a meeting with the rest of the club officers, and you will plan a budget. Don’t worry about this, I will provide to the treasurer - elect a flash drive with files such as this. All you will have to do is edit the numbers and information according to the needs for the next year. Once the year begins, you will have the job of taking dues and writing receipts for them. You will also need to enter in each member’s name and contact information into the international website. Don’t worry, it’s actually fun and if you need any help during that time, I’ll be available for you! After finishing dues, t-shirt sells will begin and you will just collect money from that. In between collection time periods, you will be in charge of making sure the club raises enough money to do all things it wants to such as attend DCON. Your budget will help you figure this out. It is likely that you will lead the rest of the officers in planning fundraising events. These can include restaurant nights, or other things like the Black History Showcase! The cool thing is there are Key Clubs all around the nation, and world for that matter. I met Key Clubbers in California, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Hawaii, Oklahoma…ect. It’s an easy way to meet new people, and it’s a commonality you’ll share with many when you go on to college. When you get there, you’ll even have the opportunity of joining an organization called Circle K International, which is the collegiate branch of Key Club.How cool is that? I guess what I’m saying is that your hard work now is paving the way for you future! That’s exciting!
