The Cape Girardeau County Gun Club applied for and tentatively re- ceived a grant from the Friends of the NRA to be used towards the purchase of a new trap machine for the Apple Creek range. John Shaw took the time to complete the appli- cation getting it into the NRA by the Dec. 15th deadline. Charlie Ireland wrote letters to committee members asking for their consideration of the grant, and Gary Robbins provided additional information to the group as requested. The local group ap- proved the Club’s grant at the end of February. The Club was officially notified at the NRA banquet on Mar. 28th that the $7500 would be awarded to the Club for a new trap machine subject to approval by the attorneys at NRA headquarters. The actual money will not be received until June, when a PAT-trap will be ordered to replace the present machine. Then the old machine will have to be removed and the new one installed. The Club will have to decide what to do with the old machine at that time. Ten shooters attended the Club’s Spring Fling Tournament on Saturday, March 21st. The weather did not cooperate, but everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. B class winners were first, Dale Todt; second, Steve LeGrand; and third, Paul Clement. C class placers included John Shaw, first; Grant Gillard, second; and Jerome Riley, third. Nick Tibbs, a new member to the club, also shot in the tournament. Congratulations at all shooters!

Gary Robbins once again did an outstanding job on the hot dogs and brats for lunch. In addition to the tournament shooting, eighteen rounds of skeet, three rounds of trap and five and one half rounds of 5-stand were also shot by both member and non-member shooters that day.

4-H members spent the day at Apple Creek on March 14th shooting rifles, shotguns and bows and arrows during their annual fun shoot. This event was part of the safety training that opens the shooting season for the 4-H youth.

Dale Todt, vice president of the Gun Club, is work-ing with 4-H members in the shooting sports again this year. He will be training these young boys and girls in both skeet and trap shooting. Dale reports that he will have 18 youth in his program this year.

The Cape Girardeau County Gun Club took part in Gun Shows during February and March in Cape Girardeau. John Shaw, who organizes the Club’s participation in the events, reported 15 raffle tickets sold for the Club at the February show which was held at the Arena building and 14 sold at the March show which was held at the Show Me Center. A choice of a hat, a patch or a free round of shooting was given away to anyone buying a raffle ticket from the Club at the shows.

All funds raised by the Club’s selling these items will go back into operation of the Apple Creek trap and skeet range. Hope-fully, they can be used to help build a much needed pavilion at the range.
