Good afternoon, and welcome to Walton Lanefor today’s Sussex County FA Intermediate Cup,1st Round fixture against Three Bridges U21’s.We extend a warm welcome to the visitingplayers, officials and supporters from ThreeBridges, and to match referee, Ian Moore fromAngmering. It was great to maintain our 100 percent start tothe League campaign last week, with a hard-fought 3-2 victory here against RottingdeanVillage. Two goals from Alex Barnes added to a headedopener from Bradley Miles to give us the points, although Rottingdean pushed us all the waywith two late strikes interspersed. However it could have been very different goinginto half-time, after Robins keeper KieranMagee made a super save from a Rottingdeanpenalty.Andy’s added to the squad with recent signingsTom Warren and Danny Thompson both signing- welcome both!Danny has previously played in AFCPortchester’s youth team, while Tom Warrenhas experience at both Basingstoke Town andHavant & Waterlooville’s academy’s.Three Bridges are not a complete unknown tous – as we faced them in the 5th Round of thisvery competition two seasons ago at JubileeFields, with Three Bridges running out 5-1winners.This season, their first and development sidesare managed by Simon Wormull, who has awealth of experience as an ex-professional atthe likes of Tottenham Hotspur, where hescored the opening goal in the 1995 FA YouthCup final against Manchester United, a gameSpurs went on to win 2-1.His career also included the likes of Brentford,Dover, Rushden & Diamonds, StevenageBorough and Crawley Town.
The development/ u21 side who we face todayply their trade in the Ryman South Developmentleague, winning their opening game 4-3 at hometo Greenwich Borough last week. The winners of today’s tie will be at home toRustington in the second round on October 8.Our grant-funded perimeter railings includedadvertising boards for the first time last week, and really look the part.Thank you to all our sponsors who have taken upa board with us this season. There’s still space ifyour business would like to feature, please get intouch: [email protected], Andy (Probee) has done an excellentjob on the Walton Lane playing surface - withhelp from our new ride-on mower. The pitch has arguably never looked better –also benefitting from our summer renovation ofscarification, over seeding and top-dressing.We also took receipt of a new team line-upboard for the front of our clubhouse – the samedesign as used by clubs from the Wessex League. The players now have their smart new Jomatracksuits – polo tops and new playing kit tofollow shortly with Automatic Gate Systemsconfirmed as our new sponsor. There’s no game for the reserves today followingtheir 2-9 defeat in the John Stimpson MemorialShield at Totton & Eling on Saturday. They haveanother big test at Dorchester Town in theWyvern Challenge Cup on Tuesday night. Our under 18’s begin their Arun & ChichesterYouth League campaign here tomorrow morningat home to Midhurst & Easebourne (10.30am) –would be great to see some of you along tocheer the lads on.Rick Kennett’s u16’s meanwhile, begin theirseason with a short trip to Selsey. Best of luck toboth sides. Finally, our congratulations to striker, MarcoGiambelardini and his partner Kate on the birthof their daughter, Rosabella Elsa Jean, lastWednesday at 9.32am, weighing in at 9lb. Bothmum and baby are doing well.Marco’s been in a rich vein of form for us, havingnotched ten goals already this season.Hopefully any sleepless nights for the new dadof two won’t affect his abilities in front of goal!Bar and kitchen will be open for refreshments, with scores on the TV.Enjoy the game and thank you for your support!

Southern Combination Football League -Division 2
By Alan Price
Bosham extended their lead at the topof the Sussex Combination FootballLeague division two table with a hardfought win against Rottingdean - withAlex Barnes netting twice late on, toeventually see off the maraudingmauves. The first half was tight with Bosham, largely dominating and using their homeadvantage to good effect.Chances came but, for once, a lack ofquality in the final third left them downwith the likes of Graeme Dowden,Marco Giambelardini and Louis Bell allgoing close. The visitors, on the other hand, foundthe going difficult at times and with amake shift team at the outset, due to araft of injuries and unavailability, generated few chances of note.Jordan Hardy was the workhorse inmidfield with Jack Doe and BobbyPannett the strike force.Rottingdean were tough to the tacklebut, having ridden their luck somewhatwere given a golden chance to take thelead just before the break whenawarded a penalty.Doe stepped up but Kieran Mageepulled off a spectacular save to keephim out and the scores level into thebreak.Bosham came out after the intervalintent on changing their fortunes infront of goal and, just on the hour,
Bradley Miles finally broke the deadlockwith an accurate header following acorner. The effort was headed back across goalby James Colinese and Miles stooped tohead home into the far corner to givethe reds a deserved lead.Minutes later Bosham had theopportunity to extend that lead whenawarded a penalty after Barnes wasupended but the usually reliableGiambelardini blasted over the bar.Frustrations abounded but the redscontinued to press and their lead waseventually doubled by Barnes with thefinal quarter left to go. The reds easedthrough a static offside trap and PatBulbeck was left to square to anunmarked Barnes for a simple tap in.Bosham then let their guard slip at theback, leaving Doe to slam home a looseball to gift Rottingdean a way back intothe tie. With barely minutes left on theclock Barnes netted his second of thegame to, seemingly settle the tie.The express train striker went on a mazyrun finished with a sublime effort intothe bottom corner. The Robins set their stall out to see outtime but still the Mauve’s would not liedown and on the verge of injury timesubstitute, Ashley Evans grabbed asecond for the visitors but Bosham wereable to quickly regroup and see out timefor an important victory. With other teams around them alldropping points Bosham now hold a fourpoint advantage at the top of the tableand the nice distraction of cup football, next week, will bode well for the highflying Robins.Bosham: Magee, Gilbert, Bulbeck,Docherty, Colinese, Bell, Barnes, Miles,Redman, Giambelardini, Dowden. Subs:Probee, Warren, Thompson, Sumnall,Fewell.
