President’s Letter — by David Liebschutz

Despite the somewhat uneven weather in May, lots of folks are getting out and enjoying spring and the beautiful area we live in.

Some thanks go out this month to all the volunteers that make the MHCC run.

Thanks to board members Jon Benn, Dan Craven Howie Diamond, Kristy Race and Jude Sagor and ride leaders Dave Render, Terry Armon and Andy Swartz for their efforts to help with the May 6 MHCC Kick-Off Day. We had almost 40 people ride (in three separate rides, including a muddy but fun mountain bike ride) on a challenging weather day from a beautiful spot at the Colonie Town Park and then enjoy a pot-luck lunch together. Plan on joining us next year for this fun event!

Thanks to MHCC VP Howie Diamond for helping coordinate our participation in the annual “bike to work day” and lobbying for the “3-Foot” law with our partners at the New York Bicycling Coalition” on Friday, May 19. Let’s hope that the NYS Legislature finally acts to put this commonsense law into force this year and join over two dozen states that already have it.

Thanks to MHCC board member and Century Chair Dr. Bill Leahey and his committee for their work on the Century Ride. Here are the details that they have finalized thus far. The event will be held Sept 9 & 10 at the Carlsbad Pavilion, Saratoga Spa Park. Registration for the event will only be online (through BikeReg, available mid-June) or on day of the event.
