WELCOME TO THE SOUTH OF PERTH YACHT CLUBThank you for your interest in the South of Perth Yacht Club, one of Perth’s finest yacht clubs. Our Club offers a complete range of sailing, power boating and social activities and opportunities for all. Located less than 10 minutes from Perth CBD, the Club has land and water pens, hardstand, boat ramp, swing moorings, ample car parking, restaurant with views across the Swan and Canning Rivers to Perth, three bars, alfresco dining and function centre.

South of Perth features a wide diversity of yachting classes and divisions from junior training dinghies through to a very social cruising section. Our time trialling power boat fleet is the largest on the river and caters for the inexperienced and expert alike. With a full programme of social events each year, a la carte and casual dining and outdoor and indoor bars, there is something for everyone seven days a week.

We are absolutely sure that joining the South of Perth Yacht Club is a decision you’ll look back on with both pride and pleasure.

NEW MEMBER APPLICATIONS1. All applicants must be nominated by a Proposer and Seconder who are voting members of South of

Perth Yacht Club. No applications will be accepted without these signatures. If you do not know any Club members, please contact the membership chairman who will be able to assist with this requirement.(Membership Chairman: Troy Dalglish 0448 288 044 or Membership Officer on 9364 5844)

2. Once an application has been submitted complete with signatures and payment, a letter of acknowledgment will be forwarded, attached to which will be a yellow provisional membership card which will allow immediate use of the facilities. No credit facilities are extended under a provisional membership.

3. All Applicants are required to attend an induction evening before formal acceptance will be granted. Induction evenings are held on the third Wednesday of each month and are conducted by the Membership Chairman and the Committee and are of approximately 45 minutes in duration. Applicants unable to attend their scheduled induction must attend the following month. During this process, applicants name are placed on the Clubs notice board for a minimum of fourteen days prior to receiving Management Committee formal approval.

4. Management Committee meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Once formal approval has been obtained, you will be sent an approval letter inviting you to call into the office to collect your gate key and car sticker.

SPECIAL CLUB FUNCTIONSThe club has a full and varied programme of social events throughout the year available for members to attend. These varied events include a Melbourne Cup Garden Party, Children’s Christmas Party through to the black tie Commodore’s Ball. Details of the Club’s events are on the website, and in the e-newsletter “Coffee Pointers” and “Soundings” magazine.

PRIVATE FUNCTIONS AND CATERINGMembers’ private functions such as weddings, engagement parties and conferences are our speciality or if you require catering on the water contact the Food and Beverage Manager on 9364 5844 or [email protected].

DRESS REQUIREMENTSWe remind members to encourage their guests to dress in an appropriate manner so as to ensure the facility is enjoyed by all members and their guests. Any member who is not appropriately attired may be refused service. Neat casual dress is the acceptable standard of dress in our Clubrooms. The Barnacle Bar is available during the day for members working on their boats and who do not meet the dress code.

PENS AND MOORINGSWaiting lists for water and land pens change regularly. The office can provide up to date information.Participation by members ensures the continued success of our Club. Preference in pen allocation will be given to those who are, or who commit themselves to be, actively involved in Club events.Applications must be made in writing to the Pens & Mooring Committee. No applications are accepted unless the owner of the vessel is a full member of the yacht club.

PEN FEESWater pens fees vary depending upon the pens size allocated and the office can help with further details.A vessel cannot be penned, launched, moored or brought into the Club area (land or water) unless registered with the Club and having a current Marina Compliance Certificate and then only with the express permission of the Chairman of the Pens and Moorings Committee. All members with craft in the marina or on moorings must comply with the Boat Harbour Regulations and the Marina Compliance rules.

LAUNCHING RAMPThe ramp is for use by Full Ordinary members for launching club registered vessels that are kept away from the premises. A key to access the ramp is used. Lost keys incur a replacement fee.

TRAVEL MARINE LIFT & HARDSTANDThe Club has a hardstand maintenance area and travel marine lift capable of lifting boats up to18m. Discounted rates are available to South of Perth Yacht Club members.

CRANESThe Club’s gantry cranes are located on the Western Hardstand. Training is mandatory for members who wish to use this facility for getting their vessel in and out of the water.

FUELDiesel and ULP is available for purchase from the Club by Ordinary members. The fuel pumps are located on the main jetty. Authorised members must have their access key programmed to enable fuel purchases.

ON WATER ACTIVITIESOn water events is what SoPYC is all about. The Club strongly encourages on-water competition and participation of members as part of a active and successful yacht club. There are many ways for boat owners to participatein Club activities with yacht racing for sail boats, time trialling for power boats and cruising for both sail and power.

SAILINGOur sailing fleets comprise of boats from eight foot long children’s dinghies to ocean racing keelboats, sixty feet in length. Sailing is very much a family sport and active sailors at our club range in age from eight to eighty years, All are welcome! Our sailing programs operate all year long, on Saturdays, Wednesday afternoons and Thursday evenings for keelboats and Sundays for dinghies and centreboard yachts.

POWER YACHTSThere is a very active powerboat section at SoPYC. The Club’s Time Trialling season is conducted from May to September each year.Time trialling is a boating activity available to any members with a craft capable of navigating at a speed between 5 and 15 knots under engine power. A time trial event involves travelling and accurately maintaining a predetermined course between fixed marks on the river at a nominated speed. Family participation is possible and it provides an excellent opportunity to use your boat during the winter season, learn the local water and learn the capabilities of your boat

CRUISINGThe Cruising Section of the Club is all about recreational boating. With activities that appeal to those of us who want to get out on the water with friends and families and enjoy our fabulous river and coast.The Cruising Section organises events for all members throughout the year, both on and off the water.

TRAININGThe SoPYC Sailing Academy operates a fully resourced, professional “Discover Sailing Centre” providing a wide range of Yachting Australia educational boating experiences.Our mission is to promote and develop the sport of sailing through our Junior and Youth Development Programs. Whether your child wants to sail competitively or just for fun, the South of Perth Yacht Club can provide the perfect launch pad.Our Sailing Academy courses are not only for kids. We also run courses for adults and corporate groups. If you have never tried sailing before we provide a great way and safe environment in which to learn, enjoy Perth’s beautiful waterways and meet new people.

CATEGORIES OF MEMBERSHIPThe South of Perth Yacht Club offers members the choice of voting and non-voting categories of memberships. Members of the South of Perth Yacht Club receive the following benefits -•Access to excellent club facilities and services•Great discounts on food & beverage products•Discounts on Sailing Academy courses•Reciprocal rights at other interstate sailing clubs•Takeaway alcohol•Subscription to our quarterly magazine (Soundings)•Opportunity to be involved in the sport of sailing and time trialling

ORDINARY MEMBERSHIP entitles the competitive sailor with full club voting rights (over 18yrs), the use of all Club amenities, including boat parks and all other associated sailing facilities. There are variations in full membership (including FAMILY and CENTREBOARD memberships).

CREW MEMBERSHIP is available to anyone over 18yrs who regularly crews on vessels participating in club events. It provides the use of all club amenities including car parks. Intro Crew Membership is available for a period of up to two membership years to those who have not previously been a member of the Club, after which they must upgrade to Crew.

COUNTRY MEMBERSHIP is available to anyone over the age of 18yrs whose usual place of residence is more than 100km radius from the club.

RECIPROCAL MEMBERSHIP is available to any person who is a financial full member of another yacht club.

SOCIAL MEMBERSHIP provides for the person who is interested in the social side of the club, and had no voting rights, social members may sail as well as enjoy being involved within the social life of a true sporting club.

ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP is the equivalent of social membership and is available to anyone over the age of 18 who is the spouse (legal or de facto) of a full member/country member or the parent of a junior member.

VOTING RIGHTS - Only Full Ordinary, Country, Centreboard, Life Members are able to vote at General Meetings.

Student Discount: Ordinary/Centreboard members engaged in full time educational/vocational courses which precludes them from earning a regular income, may apply to the Management Committee for a reduction at half the annual subscription rate.
