Object of Rotary: The

Object of Rotary is to

encourage and foster the ideal

of service as a basis of worthy

enterprise and, in particular, to

encourage and foster:

FIRST: The development of

acquaintance as an opportunity

for service;

SECOND: High ethical

standards in business and

professions, the recognition of

the worthiness of all useful

occupations and the dignifying

of each Rotarian’s occupation

as an opportunity to serve

society;

THIRD: The application of

ideal of service by every

Rotarian to hi/her/ personal,

business and community life;

FOURTH: The

advancement of international

understanding, goodwill and

peace through a world

fellowship of business and

professional persons united in

the ideals of service.

THE 4-WAY TEST

Of the Things we Think,

Say or Do:

1. Is it the TRUTH?

2. Is it FAIR to all

concerned?

3. Will it build

GOODWILL and better

FRIENDSHIPS?

4. Will it be

BENEFICIAL to all

concerned?

From Tom Wallace, Meal-on-Wheels

Program Chair

I was speaking with Debbie Martinez, the

new site manager for MOW in West

Sacramento (Anthony is still involved but

at a higher, supervisory level). She said

they are in real need of volunteers—

particularly for Route 6 on Wednesdays

and Thursdays. I told Debbie I would

contact all you great Rotarians to see if

anyone would be interested in taking on

another day—not weekly but perhaps

every two or 4 weeks.

If so, please call Debbie at 373-5805

I am the team leader of the Rotary Team at the Breathe

California Emigrant Trails Bike Trek. The ETBT – or

Trek – is a three-day cycling event that raises funds to

support clean air, healthy lungs and a tobacco-free

tomorrow. Below is a picture of the 2011 Rotary

Team. Our team is made up of Rotarians and non-

Rotarians. We ride in the Breathe California Bike Trek

which is the weekend after Labor Day (September 7-

9). Here is the web address for the bike trek -

http://sacbreathe.org/trek.html. As stated in the web site,

this is not a race and accommodates cyclists of various

levels. After cycling in the morning/early afternoon, we

get together at our campsite and socialize, drink wine or

beer, and basically hang out. We will be camping this year

at the KOA in Petaluma and the rides on Friday, Saturday,

and Sunday will all start and end at the campground. The

rides vary in length from 20 to 55 miles and in the past

there have been three options on Friday and Saturday and

two options on Sunday. Meals are provided and they are

fabulous. There are also camp activities Friday and

Saturday evenings. The cost of the ride is $35 to register

($25 until May 31) and a minimum of $450 in pre-

collected tax-deductible donations. The registration fee

includes tent camping but for an additional fee, you can

bring your motorhome/trailer or rent a small cabin at the

KOA.

If you would like more information, check the Breathe

California web site or call me at (916)988-1080 or email

me at [email protected]
