CLT PROCUREMENT PROCESS

June 2013CLT AND MASSIVE TIMBER SEMINAR

• Good CLT design starts at the very beginning – the project must be designed with CLT in mind rather than changing CLT to fit existing design

• Things to consider;– Panel sizes vs. manufacturer’s standard production sizes– ‘nesting’ i.e. optimisation of the panels in relation to the

‘master’ panels => minimise waste– Top lamella orientation and quality– Handling on site, including building sequence– Logistics

- Panel production sizes vary between manufacturers- Engineers at the mill will optimise the cutting

patterns to maximise the yield from the ‘master’ panel

- CONTAINER SHIPMENT- BREAK BULK SHIPMENT

Page 10: Clt mtb seminar_presentation_three

10

• Pre-carriage from the factory to a sea port either by truck or train

• CLT can be loaded either horizontally or vertically, subject to local road/rail restrictions

• There are several container lines sailing from Europe to SEA; typically containers to Australia are transhipped either at Singapore, Malaysia or Hong Kong

• Delivery time 7-14 days from stuffing the containers at the mill to sailing from an European port

• Sailing time 50 – 60 days
