Club Fair Booth Decorating

The theme for the 4-H club booths is “”Your Passport to Adventure,” Clubs will be able to decorate their booths on Friday July, 13th from either 9:00 am – noon or 6:00- 8:00 pm.

Silent Auction

Clubs, please don’t forget to donate an item(s) to the 4-H Silent Auction which is held in the 4-H Exhibit Building. The Silent Auction has become a popular event at the fair each year and a great fundraiser for the 4-H program. Items are to be brought to the 4-H Exhibit Building by Monday, July 16th.

Proceeds from the auction will go to benefit The Muscatine County Endowment.

Don’t Forget Your Write-Up

Don’t forget to do a write- up report on your fair exhibits. Information to include in the report can be found in the fair book on page 7, item #11. The write-up doesn’t need to be long but it should be easy to read. Adding pictures of you completing each project is always a nice touch with the judges.

Using Pinterest

Pinterest is a popular site for 4-H’ers to use for gathering ideas for fair exhibits. Make sure to cite the correct site where you got the idea for your project and not just Pinterest itself.

Copyright and 4-H Exhibits

As you prepare exhibits for the fair, you need to be particularly aware of copyright rules. Exhibition of derivative works created by a 4-H’er is prohibited without the written permission of the original copyright holder/owner. Use of copyrighted or trademarked designs, images, logos, or materials in 4-H exhibits is prohibited unless written permission has been obtained from the copyright or trademark holder/owner. For additional information, contact the Extension Office or see 4-H Exhibit Copyright Information

Food Exhibitors: Is Your Exhibit Appropriate?

4-H’ers planning to bring food exhibits to the fair should read the publication “Inappropriate Food Exhibits for Iowa 4-H Fairs” – 4H 3023 to insure their exhibit is appropriate to bring to the fair.

FAIR INFO

Fair Book is Available

The 2018 Fair Book is on the Muscatine County Extension Website!!! You will be able to print the complete fair book or only the divisions you need.

Livestock Health Papers

Reminder to all who are bringing any kind of animal to the fair – from fish to beef!

Before you can bring your animal(s) to the fair-grounds you must have a veterinarian look at it (them) and issue a certificate of inspection de-claring a clean bill of health. Sheep must be inspected within 14 days of being brought to the fair, all other animals must have their health papers within 30 days. Failure to have health papers will exclude the exhibitor from being able to show their animal until it has been cleared by a veterinarian. The purpose of having health papers is to help stop the spread of diseases to the other animals exhibited at the fair.

FAIR INFO

Fair Entry

All county fair en-tries, including livestock, static exhibits (those that are in the 4-H Exhibit Building) Clothing Event, and Communications, are to be made through FairEntry. FFA members will also be able to en-ter livestock and photography exhibits through Fair Entry.

County Fair livestock entries are to be made from May 16 to June 16 in fair entry. Live-stock has an earlier deadline because programs need to be created, numbers assigned, etc. Live-stock entries made after June 16 will be charged a $25 late fee per entry through July 1st. AFTER JULY 1ST THERE WILL BE NO ENTRIES ACCEPTED!!!

This year the process for judging static exhibits will be slightly different. Instead of exhibit tags with a bar code for scanning, each exhibitor will have a sheet with the exhibits they entered listed with a bar code next to the exhibit. That barcode will be scanned instead of one on the exhibit tag. Static entries can be added up to the day they are judged and can be written on the bottom of the exhibitor’s sheet and entered into FairEntry man-ually.

Questions about FairEntry and the entry process can be answered by talking to Lindsay at the Ex-tension Office at 563-263-5701.

Fair Entry Night Need help registering your animals or static pro-jects into Fair Entry? Drop by the Extension Of-fice on June 4th between 6-8 pm and Lindsay will be there to answer any questions you may have! We will also have computers available to make your entries this night!
