There were several parallel tracks and so I tried to manage some important sessions.Especially Diego track there were several items and I tried to get sessions of Onsi,

and few others mainly developer oriented but not all.

Also other colleagues from Huawei was attending tracks in parallel to share the knowledge.

What exactly it is:- Pluggins will help to lots of jobs as cli commands; - but co-exist with it.- So as a dev start using it for new developmnt.

SAP was doing interesting analysis of large scale data coming from CF – using Spark, Micro services, etc.

The Diego UPDATE!- Diego GA release on Q3

- Diego is feature complete!- You could use for Production.

- Pivotal is testing the scalability aspect.- Recently Pivotal hosted 50 cells +

4000 apps at AWS and analyzing the data for further processing.

- One of the fantastic session; - more open,

- lots of questions and - more clarity.

IBM Fellow Bala joins Adam in this case study. The key factor for scaling are:

- Security- Services

- Operations Management

- Lattice is just enough cloud foundry, not production type.- Run terraform cluster without Bosh.- Download the cloudcredo rock from github- Run the ‘rock’ command- Start a container in docker with same staging process as cf- Stage and run locally docker image.- If you are a lattice guy – must watch the session video!

The most important story was the Maritian!- Open sourced the book- Great Review/Criticism from the Community!- Then came the publishing order!- Then came the Movie Order!- The Moral is:

Interesting talk by two pivotal guys who created the cloud foundry and continue to drive this to the Future.- Provide a framework like travel in plane!- Cloud native apps (12 factor apps)- Google & Netflix kind of world – the Future!

Photon & Lighwave – 2 new VmWare projects

Healthcare is on Fire and CF is going to help!

Why this key note was different?- Most of the audience hearing the cloud foundry

in telecom/network(SDN/NFV) world first time! - Lots of Huawei booth traffic happened after this

talk, a clear evidence of the impact of the talk!- Clearly communicated Cloud foundry play big role

in future communication tech.- The examples given were fantastic – directly

connected to the common man’s daily life – including the bath room camera reference

1. Must Learn TDD- It is hard to learn TDD- All code is guilty untill proven otherwise- No need to refactor- Test code is your documentation

2. Be comfortable with Xtreme Programming- Mentoring, Collective coding, sharing

3. Get in to DOJO - See slide 25 for more DOJO info

4. Dedication- To the community through mailing list, documentation, test, etc.

5. Committer-ship - Significant feature contribution needed- Rare to become without DOJO

6. PMC Member/Lead

What he said (may be what I heard Dr. Nic knows too much, simply not possible to catch up with all his sayings! )1. BOSH is very complicated2. Spiff trouble3. How Openstack does not work4. Docker & Buildpack comparison5. Terraform reuse6. Kubernetes is not 12factor but Diego is!7. Lots of customer deployments discussed.8. Lots and Lots of Q&A……

- It was a long 2 hrs session:- Few guys around the table (10+)- Very deep down discussion- Specific questions & use cases- Glad to be there – Fantastic one!

• Definition of container is highly skewed• Runtime and image is confusing• Multiple PODS in CF• Docker layers & buildpacks are problem -

Patching issues in both layers. Mix it?• Droplets needs to be ported between CF• Removing build pack is difficult• Multiple Versions of images in the hub• Performance• Containers gives too much power

The top Take Away:1. For community code contribution, you can discuss the issue first in cf-mailing list2. For Pivotal tracker backlog items, please raise an issue and discuss with the

concerned PM before start coding, Let your idea know to them.3. Look at the community tag in certain tracker items and start working on it4. Icebox items are jus an idea and not necessarily feature needed. Discuss before

doing anything in icebox. Some of them may not be needed at all.5. There are very limited resource available in certain projects like CLI and so your

contributions will take long time to get in and that does not mean you are ignored.6. Current committers welcome your code contribution and so no hesitation in

contributing.7. Start adding small features with clear testing code. It will help committers to accept

it faster. 8. Discuss! Discuss! Discuss!

The DOJO

The Dojo Away:1. Selection is based on the knowledge of programming, TDD, and empathy to the

community2. Remote interview conducted through skype by Pivotal experts3. The location is few places now: San Francisco and new places coming up in US4. Its pair programming with a senior guy for 6 weeks (intense 6 days a week)5. The pairing changes depends on features/bugs. Must cope up with the situation6. Not necessarily you get a project to work; it depends where the people are needed7. After completion you get committership to that project8. Rotation happens 6-9 months between projects9. Use Google Hangouts for F2F, ScreenHero for screen sharing, Slacks for messaging10. The cost is FREE
