• What are some definitions?
• What is iCloud? What does it do & how does it work?
• What are these other clouds we hear about?
• How do we use clouds to our advantage?
• What are some pitfalls to watch out for?

THINK OF IT AS A DISC DRIVE IN THE SKY:
• Data storage
• Image storage
• Returnability
• Flexibility
• Fast
• Risk of failure
3
BUT IT IS DIFFERENT IN THE FOLLOWING WAYS:
• It is actually more fluid
• Suppliers have to maintain security
• Not as fast/available sometimes
• Redundancy
• Confidentiality

• PRIVATE clouds - In house - Sourced
• PUBLIC clouds
• PERSONAL clouds - In house - Out house
• “Anonymous” Clouds - Associated with a product/application
- and not called cloud at all

• Clouds appear as any external disk would appear
• Finder features work as expected: move, copy, rename, new folder
•Appears in Open, Save, Share dialogs for any application, not just Apple applications
•Can create folder hierarchies in Cloud Drives • DEMONSTRATION

H O W D O W E U S E C L O U D S ?
• Store info that you want to have access to across devices
• Many apps are now using the cloud to store their application’s products
• Makes it easy to do “work” in our mobile world
• Makes it easy to transfer materials from one device to another without cables and “hooking up” to our computers
H O W D O W E U S E C L O U D S ?• Use it to easily transfer materials across platforms
• Apple uses it
• For FIND MY IPAD and IPHONE
• For Backups
• For people to find our location
• Google uses it to track us, find our likes and dislikes and position ads to us
• Amazon uses it for Amazon Prime and Kindle35
H AV I N G S A I D T H AT, A R E T H E R E A N Y P I T FA L L S ?
• Some suppliers may not support all document formats - e.g Microsoft/Apple or Dropbox/Apple
• Be careful of hidden charges and automatic renewals
• Be careful to save items before deleting them
• Once you delete they go away (sometimes)
• So move them to your desktop or folder somewhere to save them permanently
