Introduction to Cloud Computing
o It is an “Internet-based computing” where services (such as servers, storage, applications and so on) are delivered to an organization's computers and devices through the Internet as an on-demand service.
o Cloud computing networks are large groups of servers, where cloud service providers usually take advantage of low-cost consumer PC technology, with specialized connections to spread data-processing chores across them.

• Clients would be able to access their applications and data from anywhere at any time.
• If the cloud computing system's back end is a grid computing system, then the client could take advantage of the entire network's processing power.

Cloud Computing Negatives
Depending on third-party to ensure the security and confidentiality of data and information
You do not have control over the remote servers, their software, or their security
It may be difficult (or even impossible) to migrate massive amounts of data from the provider

News Corner
In July 2008, HP, Yahoo! (YHOO), and Intel (INTC) announced a joint cloud computing
research project called the Cloud Computing Test Bed. The companies are jointly
designing and producing the internet based testing utilizing HP hardware and Intel
processors.
The following companies are some that have developed platforms that
allow end users to access applications from centralized servers using the internet.
Next to each company is the name of their platform.
Google (GOOG) - Apps Engine
Amazon.com (AMZN) - EC2
Microsoft (MSFT) - Windows Azure
SAVVIS (SVVS) - Symphony VPDC
Terremark Worldwide (TMRK) - The Enterprise Cloud
Salesforce.com (CRM) - Force.com
NetSuite (N) - Suiteflex
Rackspace Cloud - cloudservers, cloudsites, cloudfiles
Metrisoft - Metrisoft SaaS Platform
