• Teens generally have more freedom than adults to dress they want.

• Workplaces tend to have dress codes whether they are implied or explicitly in a handbook or rulebook

Wearing Your Clothes

• Generally, people wear only about 20% of their clothes on a regular basis

• Most clothing choices are made spur-of-the-moment.

Your Wardrobe

• To help you decide when/what to buy you need to split the clothes you do have into 4 groups.

• Group 1 - Close you wear often.

• Group 2 - Close you wear occasionally.

• What keeps you from wearing it more?

• Could you add to it to wear it more?

Your Wardrobe

• Group 2

• Move clothes you want to keep into group 1

• Move clothes that do not fit or do not want into group 4.

• Group 3 - Clothes that need attention

• Ripped? Fit?

• Do like group 2, and make decisions.

Your Wardrobe

• Group 4 - Clothes that you have not worn for more than a year or no longer want.

• First, double check to make sure there isn’t something you want to keep

• Charity?

• Donation?

• Hand-me-down?

• Decide what you need for your life

• Do you already have it?

• Can you make it happen?

• After finding what you need, put it in a list

• Make a list of the clothes you want to have

• Find out how much you have to budget for you new clothes

• Compare quality

• Not Unit Cost, but Cost per Wearing

• Department Stores - More clothes are sold here than anywhere else.

• Typically offer all variety of ages, styles, prices

• Rely on reputation and service to keep people coming back

• Specialty Stores - Cater to very specific buyers.

• “Tall men”

• “Petites”

• Boutiques - Specialty stores for fashionable clothes.

Where to Buy?

• Discount Stores - Sell clothes for much less

• May have less quality

• Less service

• Factory Outlets - Sell a manufacturer’s overruns

• Discount prices

Where to Buy?

• Online/Mail Order - using the internet to order clothes to be shipped to your home.

• Can be cheaper, but you do have to take into account for shipping and handling

Return Policies

• Not all stores allow returns

• Some may offer a credit slip

• like a gift certificate

• only used in the store

• Many times you must have a receipt
