PRE-COLONIAL TIMES

Before the arrival of the Spanish conquerors, there were a lot of native peoples

living in these regions of Argentina. We are not going to bore you with history,

we are going to talk about their fashion.

Diaguitas They wore the "Peruvian shirt", a Tunan (like a large tunic). They wore sandals.

Also, they were adorned with face painting, tattoos, bracelets, pins, and breastplates made of copper or bronze.

When the Spanish conquerors attacked them, they had to make a huge journey to escape from them.

Calchaquies Their clothing consisted of a shirt that reached below the knee and sometimes it was girded at the waist to avoid tripping.

The feet were protected by sandals called flip-flops.

Their weapons were huge and showed the warriors’ ferocious attitude towards their neighbours as well as with the conquerors. They used stone axes and bows and arrows.

This is one of the great Calchaqui warriors.
