The Baseline for Data Mining Data Analytics

When asked to indicate their level of maturity in their use of data mining and analytics, using the TeamMate Maturity Model categories:• Half of respondents position themselves in the Initial stage of maturity • A third classify themselves as Adequate • Only 17 organizations (2%) say they have achieved an Optimized level of maturity

Key Insight: there appears to be significant opportunities for many internal audit organization's to gain value through maturing the level of their use of data mining

Uses of Data Mining Data Analytics

When asked which technology tools they expect to use to a greater extent over the next two years, survey respondents pointed to data analytics as the #1 tool they expect to increase their use of

• Risk assessment tools, which had been #1 in the 2011 survey, moved to #2 • Issues tracking tools moved from #2 to #3

Key Insight: this data reflects a priority on data tools, which can lead to a focus on applying data mining to risk assessments
