With the dawn of each New Year, we all make promises to ourselves to beer ourselves; be it in a small or a big way. Aer all change is the only c o n s t a n t ! W e a r e constant ly try ing to beer or change or transform ourselves, in order to be the best version of ourselves. But what happens when we achieve our goals and we h a v e t r a n s f o r m e d ourselves into our best version? iiiii

Most people are besought with a kind of feeling that can only be t e r m e d a s t r a n s f o r m a o n a l insecurity. It is what happens when we have achieved our goal of transformaon that has elevated us from our previous self and made us into another person altogether. However, it does not necessarily have to be a bad thing.

One of our resident students at the Durgapur C h i l d S t u d y a n d Development Centre has u n d e r g o n e a transformaon that sets her completely apart from her socia l and economical background. Chandni was one of the first students to join the centres. She comes from a very poor family; all her brothers are addicted to

gambling. Rising from these circumstances was a dream Chandni could never even begin to imagine. Today she is an assistant teacher at St. P e t e r ' s S c h o o l i n Durgapur. She has clearly e x p e r i e n c e d a transformaon that has had a profound effect on her life and her way of thinking. In Chandni's culture, girls get married ear ly and Chandni 's family told her to do the same; but , Chandni refused. She wishes to finish her graduaon and t h e n c o m p l e t e a Teacher's Training course so that she can be an independent and self-dependent woman. iiiii

Transformaon does not necessarily banish the proverbial “fat-girl/boy” inside us. If a n y t h i n g , i t k e e p s reminding us of who used to be, resulng in insecurity that keeps us from being our best selves. This New Year let us take a lesson from C h a n d n i a n d s e e k e m a n c i p a o n f o r ourselves that is beyond just transformaon. Let us pray to God to bless us with the strength to accept the change that we seek and to embrace it in a way that helps us g r o w i n t o t h e b e s t version of ourselves.
