Famously known as the birthplace of General Michael Collins “Clon” is where you can delve deeper into the history of this Irish Revolutionary. Why not visit the Michael Collins statue in the town centre and the Michael Collins House just a short walk away on Emmet Square. A 6km drive west from the town centre to Ballinoroher is the Michael Collins Centre and a scenic countryside area steeped in Irish history. Coastal This Wild Atlantic Way coastline is home to many jaw dropping viewpoints, glorious beaches and rugged coastal roads. Just 5km from Clonakilty is Inchydoney beach where you can walk along its expansive golden strand and swim in the shimmering blue water. Further west along the coast is the stunning Galley Head, elevated over 100m above the sea this rocky headland overlooks exceptional beaches giving panoramic views of Owenahincha beach and Rosscarbery Bay. Continue west along the spectacular coastline to enjoy mesmerising views of the Atlantic Ocean, spotting whales and dolphins along the way. Take a boat trip to Cape Clear, discover Mizen Head Irelands most southerly point and a don’t miss a visit to the lighthouse at Sheeps Head. East 10km from Clonakilty you will find the beautiful village of Timoleague, perched at the edge of a long sea inlet and dominated by the ruins of a 13th Century Franciscan Abbey.
